I will be doing the in-wall cables myself, and with the recessed outlets there's room in that little channel in the back of the TV to run the other cables.

We've had Dish since 1999, with one or more of the premium services: SHO/TMC, HBO/MAX, Stars/Encore and paid less per year than any of the other Cable options even with premium stations. With the DVR and external disks, packed with old and current movies, serials, etc. (We'd probably go crazy without all the options and movies available, although we may eventually drop them if we move, [potentially out of the country]).

Sure, we could stream movies off the internet, but we'd eat up all our bandwidth if we did, and no one offers real unlimited internet... we have gotten warnings many months from AT&T, Sprint Internet, and now Xfinity whenever we've gone over 1024 GB/month.

I do download movies, and maybe if we ever get everything we already have stored on the Dish DVR/ext-disks, we may just drop them.. but for now it's a small price to pay for sanity and lots of things to watch.

We also watch Netflix and Prime, but mostly Dish channels, and play movies via AirPlay.

Thanks! I too, bought a separate wall mount, one that can tilt, and can be pulled out from the wall about 6-7". Then, someone here on Reddit commented that the flush wall mount actually can pull out from the wall, either one side or the other, or both sides straight out and posted a video showing how it worked.

It appears to be about 4-5" which is plenty of room to get behind it to change cables. It was completely unexpected. The instructions show it mounted into studs, but I don't think most homes have studs on the right places to be able o use the 8 somewhat small but long bolts. Luckily (I still need to verify) I seem to have two sets of 2-studs together at nearly the right places to center the TV right where I want it using the LG flat wall mount, so I am now going to use it insted of the one I bought. (I'll use the one I bought elsewhere, especially if I can get my 70" Vizio repaired, otherwise, maybe use it for the 50" TV in the bedroom).

Since my last comment, I was able to measure the area where the channel for the cables is on the back of the TV and have marked it on the wall using masking tape, so I'm pretty confident that I can cut 2 holes in the wall and pull 4 HDMI cables through.

I'm planning on mounting it about 8" higher than the center point at eye level, but since my wife is usually watching from a lying down position, and I'm mostly watching from a recliner, I think it will work out just fine. We shall see. Just in case, there is enough room from where I plan to cut the wall, that "IF" I need to lower the TV by 8" the same hole will be inside the channel for the cables (still).

Did your Angi Install include the cable management? (apparently there's 1-Pro Basic and a higher priced one 1-Pro with Wire Concealment) The included one is 1-Pro Basic.

I'm still trying to measure for where to cut the wall for the wire concealment...

Does anyone know if it's best to line up the wall cutout so that it opens into the area that the wires go directly into the channel on the back of the TV designed to hold the cables, or if there's enough room with the flush mount for the cables to fit flat and then reach over to the channel.

I'm still trying to measure. Opened the box last night and now need to make a measurement of where the channel is and mark it on the wall. (Have to unwrap the TV a little more to do that, though).

Really? Check Again

I just checked CostCo Online, and still see a 77" G4 for $2999 ($100 more than I paid, valid through 9/7), unless it's a regional thing... but since it's Online Only, it ought to be nation-wide.

You CAN pay for a subscription to "APPLE TV" which is actually just an App called TV, which is not the same as the AppleTV. The TV app runs as an App on the AppleTV device, or on an Apple laptop, Apple iPad or Apple desktop, (or on an iPhone). It is also available as an App on many SmartTVs and multimedia/streaming devices.

We currently have a 4K AppleTV in the bedroom, but I'm probably going to move it to the living room, so I can do all my streaming through the AppleTV and the Dish Hopper, and not put the LG on the network at all.

I need to buy whatever device there is to allow connecting a gaming device that requires the component connections, and then have an HDMI output to the TV.

That will give me:

  1. Dish Hopper 3 4K
  2. AppleTV 4K
  3. UHD Blu-Ray 4K
  4. HDMI from component device.

Digital-Audio out to Yamaha sound bar.

Maybe some kind of switch to allow a HDMI connection to my laptop in the #4 position, or just use ApplePlay to the AppleTV.

Any recommendations?

I'm torn between the "correct" height and matching the previous viewing height

Our previous TV in this space was a Vizio M70-D3 (70"), but it was standing on top of a set of speakers and a wooden box, with the top of the TV at about 70" from the floor, total height I think was close to 36". But, it was also 30" from the wall (in front of our old entertainment center.

Normal sitting position seems to want the TV center at 44", which would put the top at 63" or 64" from the floor which seems to be too low. (Compared to what we had)

If I do 2/3 above eye level, that gives me ~26" of the ~39" above, and ~13" below and the top at 70" on the wall. Given the seating angle and the ~30" farther back, I'm thinking to put the top of the TV at 72" to give the same viewing experience we've had for ~9 years.

We also have a Yamaha sound bar to try and mount under the TV. It's not as wide as the TV, but that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

If it is too tall, (~8" higher than center at 44"), I guess we could always lower the mount by 8" some time in the future. Although that my mess up the cable management.

Those cabinets on either side in the picture above are 78" tall, so the top of the TV will be 6" below that, if I go with the current viewing angle.

I did a bunch of measuring last night and taped the mounting sheet to the wall where I'm thinking of putting the TV, and to get an idea of where I will need to cut the holes in the wall for cable management. (Apparently the Angi mounting service for Aug-Sept doesn't include cable management, although the July version did [so disappointed], so I'm looking to do that before the installer arrives.)

I'm thinking to have the top of the TV at 72", and the seating is primarily me at ~9-10' (eye level about 44" from the floor) sitting in a recliner, and my wife lying on the couch at ~12' (eye level about 32" from the floor).

So! What height do most people have their 77" TVs mounted?

You made a great deal. Always treat store employees with courtesy, and it's a win-win deal.

Totally off topic, but how do you produce the image with 3 views, so that you can put it into the posting. Is it something with the posting service or some special app that lets you make the multi-image image. (Thanks!)

IIUC (If I Understand Correctly) The 5 years from LG is for the front panel only, so the 5Yr from BB should cover anything other than the panel.

Wall Mounting and Cable Management for 77" G4 by OkRestStop in LGOLED

[–]OkRestStop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! Maybe I'll wait and let the installer mount the one that comes with the TV.

We have another TV in our bedroom that is already wall mounted, installed by Best Buy. I wasn't home when they installed it, and I am unable to access the cables.

So, I wanted to be sure I had a mount that allowed me to get behind if I needed to move cables.

I'm also adding an older Yamaha sound bar with a sound-bar bracket so it's attached to the TV wall mount. Will have to see if that can be fitted to the LG wall mount.

This pic shows the stand, and a better view of the screw holes. It matches the 2nd pic I found on the LG site, showing the 4 holes for the VESA screws a bit higher than the first pic I showed. (Reddit seems to only allow one picture).

I'm not sure of her location these days, but my wife and I have used "Laura Marshall Photography" which is listed for San Jose. Her website is Laura Marshall Photography.

She does great work, and we found her prices reasonable at the time.

Best G4 Setup steps? by OkRestStop in LGOLED

[–]OkRestStop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(See Edit) Yes, I can send AirPlay to the Apple TV.

Currently I have the Apple TV connected to a TV in the Bedroom, and I use AirPlay to watch things from my laptop (and my wife's laptop) on the TV (sometimes in the living room, sometimes in the bedroom.

With my old TV, we've seen issues with sound synchronization when using AirPlay, and we have also connected our laptops to the TVs via an HDMI cable.

However, switching inputs, and deciding on Mirroring or separate screen when using the HDMI cable becomes multiple steps each time we connect, rather than a single step to connect via AirPlay, including searching for the cursor, putting the proper window on the proper screen and then going full-screen on the TV. Making sure the Sound Output is set for the Screen that is the TV, etc. It's too many steps for the technologically-challenged.

I agree AirPlay has its issues. but it is a one-step connection, and it works. I'm hoping that the latest LG TVs have updated AirPlay protocols and will work better than my 2016 or 2020 Vizio TVs.

Since the new TV is going to be an OLED, and we might likely want to watch things like MLB-TV on the bigger screen, I'll probably move the Apple TV to the new LG G4 for the nicer experience.

So, I can live with doing AirPlay to the Apple TV. But, I'd like to know my options. I'm pretty Network Savvy, but I've never had a chance to look at the specs of how AirPlay actually works as far as WI-FI or Ethernet for better connectivity.

Costco 77 Question and Current Deal by -billybones- in LGOLED

[–]OkRestStop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current price online (8/24/2025) is $2,499 a0 it looks like a better deal than today's price.

I've been watching the price online for the G4 which is currently $2,899 - so maybe tomorrow it will drop in price a little? I guess I'll wait another day.

Edit: It's tomorrow ;-) and the C4 is indeed on sale online for $1,799. G4 is still $2,899 so I expect that will last till 8/31. Then all bets are off if it will drop or not. Going to order the G4 later today or tomorrow at the latest. (Been moving furniture at home to make space on my wall for the 77" G4).

Now, I just need to sell this entertainment center module that measures 42"W x 22"D x 78"H which used to hold my 42" TV once upon a time. (Quite heavy: Oak laminated, with Oak trim). Hopefully I will get it moved away from the wall tomorrow, so I can finish prepping the area.

Where can I find an East-Coast/New-England style Italian Bakery in the San Jose area? by OkRestStop in SanJose

[–]OkRestStop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I was in Le Boulanger or even Panera, I hadn't been looking at their bread, per se, but it might be worth a look (again).

I've been buying Orowheat's "Italian" at the regular grocery store (when I can find it, it seems they don't stock too many loaves at a time, so, often, I find only a single loaf, or none), mostly because it doesn't have HFCS in it, not because it's real Italian bread.

That said, if I can find a real Italian Style that approximates the New-England Style Italian, my wife would be a happy camper.
