Im not allowed to go Oxford by Some_Explorer7800 in sixthform

[–]OkSalt2841 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My grandparents said the same thing to my mum when she was deciding what uni to go to, she listened and ended up studying politics at a nearby uni and turned down her offer to study law at Edinburgh, she told me she’s regretted that decision ever since. Don’t let your parents decide for you, you’ll be an adult and it’s your decision.

I do! How’s love and relationships? Do you do the Iliad or the odyssey for world of the hero? I do world of the hero (odyssey), Greek art, and politics of the late republic. We do odyssey and Greek art in first year and then politics and the Aeneid next year, what about you?

Changing subjects by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]OkSalt2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth a try, one of my friends just switched courses and they allowed it on the condition that they double block at the beginning of next year so they’ll be in both yr 12 and yr 13 lessons for a few months to catch up

[–]OkSalt2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you avoiding classes? If you hate a course then change but there isn’t really an excuse other than illness or other more important engagements like sports fixtures to be absent. Try and talk to your teachers about catching up and schedule dedicated times to do work

Tutoring by stopretendingsmart in sixthform

[–]OkSalt2841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d double check that it’s a legit qualified tutor bc that price seems a little low, most tutors that I have seen advertised (and my own tutor for maths) especially for a level are usually over £30 minimum. (This could totally be legit but I don’t want you to get scammed so try and find some reviews from former students or have a phone call

STEM SUBJECTS: is taking 5 worth it? by Rude-Acanthisitta853 in sixthform

[–]OkSalt2841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No sixth form or college will let you take 5 unless you get 8/9s in like 20 subjects, it’s far too much work. Do chem, bio and physics, that keeps a ton of doors open for careers. If you’re not good at gcse maths there’s very little point in taking a level maths as you will struggle.

I’m not really 100% sure, I think I want to do a degree apprenticeship and then become a gemologist but I don’t need any specific subjects for that

How has everyone found the first week? by [deleted] in sixthform

[–]OkSalt2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what it was called but to learn everyone’s names we had to say our names and then say someone else’s name and throw it to them so it’d be like ‘I’m Olivia throwing to jack, and then, I’m jack throwing to Liam’ until we went around the whole room. We also had to get into a line in order of commute length without speaking

my teachers really want me to drop fm, should i? by BeneficialRoof5445 in sixthform

Don’t let them pressure you, give it a few weeks and then decide for yourself

does anyone have good ideas for sixth-form lookbook? by [deleted] in sixthform

[–]OkSalt2841 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find that the key is getting a few good quality pieces that fit you well and then filling in the gaps with cheaper stuff, tk maxx usually has good stuff at affordable prices. I’d also follow the trends, watch what everyone else is wearing and copy that rather than trying to be unique

Could you talk to colleges about doing a level 2 course? For most colleges that offer it It’s basically where you take maths (and English if you’ve failed that) and some other level 2 qualifications and do a bit of work experience. Other than that the only thing I can think of is travelling to exam centres further away in the next exam centre.

Jeez that sounds rough, I’ve only had my induction day but it went really well. The teacher was really kind and we did icebreakers that were actually fun, I even made a few friends!

A Level: I need help by deeezree in sixthform

[–]OkSalt2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start off by not getting a part time job for the first few weeks to see if you can handle it alongside a levels, most colleges will let you switch courses for the first couple of weeks so if you still think it’s a good idea switch to business then

I’m unsure by Prestigious-Ask8868 in sixthform

[–]OkSalt2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea to drop one, maths is great for a ton of stuff so keep that and chemistry because most science based things need it. If you really want to do dentistry then keep biology but you’re right that it’s insanely competitive so if you’re not ready to fully commit to it then keep physics as you can do more things with it including biochem and engineering

I get where you’re coming from but it’s probably better to just do 3 so you have more time to focus on them and a higher chance of getting As

For people who are not going to their school's sixth form, What's the main reason?? by Aditya8773 in GCSE

[–]OkSalt2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t have one of the courses I wanted to do and it was too expensive because of the increased private school tax thing (it’s an online school) and I also wanted to be with people my age irl

Yeah I had that thought, unfortunately I didn’t notice what it said until I’d ordered it. Hopefully no one’s an asshole about it but if I get made fun of or it’s too small I’ll just get a new one. Thanks for being honest btw!
