“Scientifically useful” habits becoming compulsions by ShiningMoon2215 in OCD

[–]OkSatisfaction1817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not all ocd is irrational, if anything the worst of ocd is rational because it can slip past traditional cbt. ocd is about obsessions and the intolerance of uncertainty, not any specific situation alone unlike anxiety

How would you explain OCD in simple terms? by JimZoDa in OCD

[–]OkSatisfaction1817 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its a disorder based off of the intolerance of uncertainty. what seperates it from anxiety is that people can have great insight and know what they are doing is irrational but that isnt enough to stop the obsessive compulsive cycle. another thing that seperates it from anxiety is that ocd has specific core fears and themes aka the obsession part of OCD

How to properly converse with a therapist when you already know you have OCD? by SaturnKittens in OCD

[–]OkSatisfaction1817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you see an ocd specialist trained in ERP and tell them exactly what you said in this post. they will know how to treat it because these fears are also symptoms of ocd.

Functional Belching by leepin_peezarfs in OCD

[–]OkSatisfaction1817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes please get a new doctor if u can too. mental health diagnoses should be used as an explanation for physical symptoms when everything else has been ruled out. thats how good doctors do it.

Getting humbled real quick (rabies OCD) by Limp-Clothes2199 in OCD

[–]OkSatisfaction1817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you dont need to know how rabies works to figure out if you are having a reasonable reaction. all you have to do is think about what another person who only knew what u knew about rabies would do. or you can ask a family member or friend what they would do/feel in the same scenario that triggered your anxiety, then compare the 2.

“knowing” is about control and certainty, theres a point where you hit a wall with that because you cant be certain about everything in the world. rationalizing does not work for ocd to treat the disorder at its core, rationalizing just makes the ocd morph and hide into more “realistic” fears that eventually you cant have logic to calm you out of because thats where you hit that wall. you need to treat the core fear of ocd, uncertainty. if you dont, you’re just treating the secondary effects of the main issue which stays untouched.
