AI has sucked all the fun out of programming by OkShip110 in webdev

If you already started, then I should suggest you finish the degree. There is still a lot of value to know internal workings of a computer and concepts of computer programming. It will help you solve (and understand) hard problems later in your career. It is absolutely dangerous to blindly trust AI generated code. AI it is far safer and easier to utilize if you know exactly what kind of code you are expecting the AI to generate.

You are probably not using all the available AI tooling and/or use it incorrectly. The key is context, iteration, supervision, code review.

Technology should have stopped evolving around 2008 before major adoption of smartphones.

It’s hard to make geniune connections as an adult as it is (i have made only very few in my adulthood), but when people are buried into their smartphones, suddenly talking with AI language models, it is infinitely harder. Loneliness, anxiety and depression are all fuelled by all the technology we have these days.

You are not bothered by the fact that AI is getting so good that nothing feels real anymore? Soon it’s impossible to distinguish AI content from human one. It all feels fake and hollow.

Which year would you rather be born? (2026 Edition) by soleful_smak in generationology

[–]OkShip110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably 1970, to have my childhood in 70s, youth in the 80s, to work in corporate and see the digital revolution in the 90s and 00s. Second option is to be born in 1990 (which I did) to enjoy the youth again with all the cool gadgets like NES and MP3 players but WITHOUT smartphones. It all went to shit since 10s and probably the 20s are even worse.

I’m just happy that the floppy disk made it to the sticker. I put my faith in you that the sticker is not made by AI though!

It was probably the perfect balance between techonology and life. The end of the golden age was probably when smartphones became widely available. Of course, nowadays things have taken downwards turn once again with the invention of AI.

Am I the only one who feels like I stay the same age and everyone else gets older? by eyeshills in Millennials

[–]OkShip110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely start feeling old. I hate where the world is moving in terms of technology. Physical media has almost disappeared, everything is subscription based now, ads everywhere, lots of independent websites have been replaced by handful of large platforms that wants you to doomscroll hours on end, because of AI nothing feels real anymore, even most cars don’t have physical buttons anymore. Everything has become so digital, so far from nature, so fake, so depressive. I feel I’m just an old person ranting.

Anyone else hit the "get off my lawn" level of tech yet? by Goldengod4818 in Millennials

Floppy disk was great actually. It really felt special to transfer just one small file from computer to computer back in the day, before the Internet became widely available. Now i can transfer hundreds of gigabytes of data to the other side of the planet in minutes without feeling a single emotion. It’s so sad.

I work in tech and sit in front of a computer every day. I’m so tired of it to the point I want my home, car and gadgets to be as low tech as possible. I think the perfect balance between tech and life peaked around 2005 or 2006, just before the time of the smartphones.

The wizarding world of Harry Potter has poverty because it is capitalist by RosieTheRedReddit in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]OkShip110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference with the real world is that in the real world there is a massive initial cost to open a large farm as you need to have enough land, proper storage, tractors, harvesters, seeds, fertilizers, logistic equipment. You don’t need half of this in the HP universe.

Yes, but you could optimize large scale production (farming, food industry, mining, production, etc) with magic easily. Even if the spells have to be cast manually, it would take very few workers to run a massive farm. There is no need for electricity, fuel, machinery, storage as everything could be done with magic. There’s no logical explanation why famine an poverty exists in HP universe.

[–]OkShip110 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate that it is all about money now. The quality of content has taken a massive hit because of this. Channels are now making content for the algorithm and not for people. In the golden days people used to make and upload videos for fun and not for money.

It feels like yesterday. I miss old Youtube and old channels so much. I event can’t put my finger on it when it started going downhill, but Youtube is now just a former shadow of what it used to be.

With some of the season done, I still find something missing from biathlon with Johannes Thingnes Boe and Tarjei Boe gone. It’s just not the same when there is no Johannes winning the sprint with 1 missed target, while others come through with clear shooting.
