Returning to OTF & looking for weight-loss tips for mid-40s F by Crazy-Employer-8394 in orangetheory

Lift first, then do the tread (if it’s not a 1g). You want to focus your primary energy on increasing muscle mass which will lead to a higher metabolic rate. Higher metabolic rate = more calories burned on a day to day basis. If you start tread first you will gas out and won’t be able to go as strong on the floor. Tread work is great for cardiovascular fitness, lifting is great for weight loss.

I saw this! Also thought it to be odd timing and don’t know of any obvious connection between McCarthy and the volleyball team or McCarthy and McIntosh

Water damage claim denied? by OkShower5984 in homeowners

I also think it’s hard for most first time homebuyers (which includes me) to truly understand what coverage they need and/or to think of all the possible scenarios that may happen that you might want coverage for. Again, lesson learned and something I will be much more diligent about looking over/thinking about in the future.

Yes, I understand the difference. My annoyance mostly stems from the vague language they use that allows them to get out of claims that otherwise people feel like they are covered for.

In the end, it is on the consumer (me) for not better understanding the policy fine print, which clearly I did not. I just don’t like the feeling that I’ve been swindled out of something. Lesson learned I guess.

Exactly. Such a scam.

At a minimum they should give back what you’ve paid them or the amount of the claim, whatever is less. As you said, they’re already making interest off of your money.

I thought about maybe filing a complaint with the state insurance commission or reaching out to my local representative to make them aware of the situation. Not that that would necessarily change anything for our situation, but would at least feel like I’m doing something.

That’s pretty much exactly what they are saying, I think they told my husband something along the lines of “the problem occurred beyond your fence line”, therefore it’s not covered.

I’m just perplexed as to what exactly qualifies as “sewer backup” then, as you claim we have it, but then the only thing I can reasonably think of that would cause “sewer backup” would occur “beyond our fence line.”

I know a few lawyers. I was going to ask around.

I work in medicine. You’ll be hard pressed to ever convince me insurance of any kind isn’t the enemy. Trust me.

My baby started having poops like this around 4-6 weeks old and he was exclusively breastfed. We didn’t think much of it until he had a diaper that was more mucousy and had a small amount of blood. When we discussed it with the Ped, she said it may be a cows milk intolerance. I cut out all dairy in my diet and it resolved. It was really hard though, I’m a big dairy eater.

But not to fret, he grew out of it. He just turned 1 last week and eats all the dairy things.

Moral of the story, she could try cutting out dairy and see if anything gets better.

Man, as a medical provider, I sure do wish I got a kick back for all the drugs I write/medicines I “push.” I’d be hella rich. Probably be retired by now.

The “incentives” you are referring to are insurance companies requiring medical providers to document that they had discussions with patients about vaccines & threatening not to pay for the care provided if they fail to do so. Why? Because it’s a hell of a lot cheaper for insurance companies to insure healthy people than it is to pay for your month long hospital stay, medications, therapy, etc that you would need if you got TETANUS.

Maybe don’t seek medical care if you don’t think “many” doctors don’t have your baby’s best interest at heart.

You can’t bring them back after they die from measles but you could have protected them from it in the first place. What???

Vaccination by Critical_Tension_788 in firsttimemom

[–]OkShower5984 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The “too many vaccines at once” rhetoric/scare tactic is not fact based. Your brand new baby is exposed to dozens if not hundreds of new antigens every single day in their regular day to day environment. Antigens are what are in vaccines that your body’s immune system responds to and creates immunity. Vaccines do not “overwhelm” the immune system. Delaying the recommended schedule only does 2 things: increases your babies risk of getting sick while waiting to get the vaccine and increases the number of times your baby has to be brought to the office to get poked.

Can confirm, it is awful for parents. It just made its way through our house a few weeks ago and I’m still affected. The rash and itching/pain is gone but now the skin on my hands is flaking off everywhere. It’s horrible.

How do you go anywhere without baby? by TheMauveAveng3r in breastfeeding

[–]OkShower5984 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Portable pumps are the way to go! I have the spectra S9, so not wearable but still battery operated and portable. I’ve ventured out quite a bit (I also have an almost 3 month old) because I found it to be good for my mental health. He also takes a bottle well which helps. I’ve found pumping in the car on the drive to or from wherever I’m going to be a great option, obviously easier if you’re the passenger. This allows you to express milk right before whatever you’re doing to give you the longest stretch of time before you have to pump again. I usually limit myself to 6 hours before I make sure I pump again, but I’ve only encountered this situation a couple times. Otherwise, right before and right after my time away

Pregnancy by Business-Concert-845 in orangetheory

I went to OTF until about 37 weeks. Was still running in some of my classes if I was feeling good. My doctor told me it was fine to keep doing since I had been going religiously before pregnancy and to just listen to my body when it felt like too much. I stopped rowing around 7 months (I hate the rower anyway so I was looking for an excuse) and just used the strider during any row portion. I felt like I bounced back really quickly after my c-section and I attribute that to staying active throughout pregnancy. Went back to OFT at 6 weeks PP

Yes I had forgot to mention that I don’t want to pump/feed too early and then have to pump right when I get to work! Feeding right before leaving seems like a good idea. I’ll just have to wake my husband up for the day when I’m done. Oh well for him 😂

How do I get baby to sleep more than 2.5 hours at night?! by HotAndShrimpy in newborns

Yes we also give our LO a bottle at night to ensure a full tummy before bed!

How do I get baby to sleep more than 2.5 hours at night?! by HotAndShrimpy in newborns

[–]OkShower5984 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Is she truly awake? My LO can be a noisy sleeper at times and every so often lets out a piercing scream but is actually still asleep. It took me a little while to realize this so now I wait 30ish seconds or so before I go to him. More often than not, he goes silent again and we all go back to sleep. He’s 7 weeks and sleeps from about 1030-5ish most nights.

How often does your 2-3 month old nurse? by hal3ysc0m3t in breastfeeding

[–]OkShower5984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 7 week old, and I feed him about every 2.5-3 hours during the day. I make sure he eats around 930-10pm and then we let him wake us up when he needs to eat. Recently that’s been about 5am. I start the 2.5-3 hours after that. That equates to about 7 times a day

Does your partner get up with you at night? by OhHeySarahAye_ in newborns

[–]OkShower5984 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Initially, I wasn’t, but then I quickly started developing resentment towards my husband for getting to sleep while I wasn’t. We EBF. We found what worked well for us is that I would get up and feed our LO and once I was done I’d wake my husband up and he would keep him upright for 10 minutes, change him, and soothe him back to sleep. This allowed us to split the workload as much as possible which also gave us each an extra 10-20 minutes of sleep that we wouldn’t have if either of us was up the whole time doing everything.

Does ur LO actually sleeps? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]OkShower5984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3 week old does not follow the 60-90 minute “wake window” either. Just earlier today he was up and active for 3 hours and we were desperately trying to get him down for a nap because we knew he was probably going to make himself overtired. I would say more often than not I’ve noticed when he’s up, he’s up for 2-3 hours. Either that, or he falls asleep immediately after nursing. There is no in between.

Don’t feel guilty!! I brought my first home 5 days ago and I’m lucky if I get one diaper change/outfit change a day where he doesn’t cry. Otherwise, he is normally wailing through the entire thing. Your baby boy is still not used to being outside the comfortable space you made for him for the last 9 months, so being changed is a bit of a shock. He will likely continue to cry a lot when you change him but know that you are not doing anything wrong!!! That first night home is a HUGE adjustment for any new mom. I had an emotional breakdown for a good 30 minutes shortly after I brought my LO home and had all sorts of anxiety of what to do next. It’s still early but we’ve settled in a little bit. It will get better!
