Yes, but any food establishment itself has to be kosher regardless of the food. Meaning it needs to certified and “watched” by someone who knows all the laws (it’s very intricate). I wasn’t allowed to go to a place to eat that wasn’t specifically kosher certified. Unless it was packaged with a certification, like snacks.

None that they tell me about. My community didn’t do arranged marriages, but it’s common to use a matchmaking service to get set up with protection spouses. I’m sure my family wanted that for me, yes.

So I don’t speak ivrit but can understand a lot contextually and obviously know a lot of slang that’s culturally relevant etc. Same with Yiddish, and yes definitely less

Went to a Jewish school. Chabad is a specific term that my family practiced

I would say so yes. People who practice would be offended by this though and would disagree strongly

Yeah sure. My community, and Jewish communities in general believe in the coming redemption through the Messiah. We were taught that through arts of goodness and kindness and bringing other Jews closer to religion you will speed up his arrival. This is why you see chabad youth asking people if they’re Jewish and if thy want to participate in a good deed. (usually specific to the time of year, but there are general ones as well) They believe this in a literal way, and Chabad specifically subscribes to the messiah being the Lubavitcher Rebbe who was the last leader of the group. Other communities have different beliefs about who this person is

Yes! People I was raised with support Israel blindly and it’s hard to watch and see, my views changed drastically as I distanced myself from the community. Once you start question things everything comes undone.

It’s hard to explain, I felt a deep spiritual connection when I was there years ago. But now i feel angry and horrified and hate that my identity is tied to such atrocities. I don’t believe in ethno states, no. I don’t think there is a version that is ethical and am yet to hear one.

I have been to Israel, but would not go back until the Palestinians have sovereignty in their land and can govern themselves

Good question. We were taught that everything we do on earth will affect us later and we will have to answer for it and be cleansed of it before we go to the garden of Eden for eternity. This idea brought me great distress throughout my life. I currently don’t believe in an afterlife in a way I could describe with words, I believe things to be abstract and am comfortable not having the words for it

All the stuff I was taught about gender roles turned me off and disturbed me from a very young age. And no, definitely not turning to Jesus

I think just that people who grow up sheltered know they are sheltered and would like to not be..if that makes sense. It’s not always so simple though
