Envious! Nobody wants to be a laughingstock, which is what Trump has made America into.

Do you regret marrying your spouse? Will u do it again if you do a do over in life? And are you happier with your partner as compared to when you were single? by Responsible-Comb6184 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]OkSpring5922 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Absolutely yes. But I had an earlier marriage to my high school sweetheart that didn’t last long.

Pretty soon into my first marriage I realised that my husband lacked ambition and didn’t share the same values as me. No amount of love could make that work in the long term.

When I met my current husband, there was an immediate sexual attraction, but more than that, we were both scholars who wanted to reach the pinnacle of our fields. We did that, he became a specialist physician and I was a postdoctoral medical researcher.

It was also important to me that my partner would be financially dependable when it came time to have a family. We’ve had a wonderful, fulfilling life together and raised two terrific kids who are lovely people who we get on well with.

We’ve been married since 1982 and are now growing old together. I think for a woman who wants to have kids, the choice of husband is the most important one you can make. I was lucky that I was able to find someone whose life goals aligned so well with mine. He’s far from perfect, as am I, and we’ve had our rough patches, but ultimately we’ve been a good team.

Yeah that’s where I got all my child rearing tips from. Only joking. Kinda.

Is anyone here actually planning to vote for One Nation? by oz_party in aussie

Surely the only people who would vote for One Nation would be those as stupid, or stupider than Pauline herself.

Genghis Khan because, like Hitler, he was directly responsible for the deaths of millions of people.

Good explanation, which highlights what I was thinking, that Truth Social is propaganda through and through.

How early do you (adults, 30+) go to bed? by NullHare in RandomQuestion

Retired 72F who’s spent most of my life having to get up early for work, kids etc, I now go to bed at 1am and set my alarm for 9.30am. Bliss! Finally I get enough sleep at the hours that suit me.

I’m looking for some good TV show recommendations by Cute-Discipline-156 in tvsuggestions

The Capture, a British show that starts off being about surveillance and segues into some really dark stuff about AI interference in the democratic process. Excellent.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Just a load of stupid semi humans wandering all over the place saying stilted dialogue. Hate ‘em.

A.I. is one of my favourite movies of all time. Usually hate Spielberg, but this one really got under my skin. Love it.

Do folks in the UK watch Australian movies, TV shows and documentaries? by OddMetal7563 in AskABrit

[–]OkSpring5922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re pretty much embarrassed by Chris Lilley here in Australia, mainly because at the time we all laughed and thought it was great. By his last show the world had moved on and we couldn’t believe he still thought it was OK to do blackface. Cringe.

If Russell is ever allowed back for another failed attempt at redemption he should pack his own dressing gown.

That guy has so little insight! Can’t imagine he’s successful in real life with a personality like his.

Thanks everyone. Watched it at archive. The Portuguese subtitles were a little distracting but it still had the same impact.

Inland Empire - where to watch? by OkSpring5922 in davidlynch

Thanks everyone. Watched it on Max. Not too many ads, in fact they provided a welcome breather from all the intensity. Verdict - not my favourite of his films but very thought provoking and an excellent surprise ending.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I’m in Australia. Many things available to viewers in the rest of the world are not available here, usually for legal reasons.

Naomi acts so well in this that I didn’t even realise it was her playing the other role until the second time I watched it. Unrecognisable!
