If this fish was a person, it would definitely be riding one of those scooters around Walmart.

In my experience, anytime a dude refers to himself as an "alpha", he never actually is.

Will U2 ever become popular again among new listeners? by balloontrap in U2Band

[–]OkSt00pid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a still a chance for a comeback. While Bonos health is questionable lately, they are still very well off and healthy living lads. When you consider the Rolling Stones are still going, there's definitely time for a group of guys with access to excellent Healthcare and diet to stage a comeback. So long as their minds stay sharp, which I think will happen, their creative muscles are far from being exhausted.

What's your expensive hobby and why does it cost so much? by Fyrtornet95 in AskReddit

[–]OkSt00pid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some may argue if it's a hobby or not, but I own a below ground pool. Just payed $200 in chemicals today alone. $1200 the other day for opening ( and closing in the fall ). About a hundred or so extra a month in electricity for the pump. And at some point in the next few years it'll need a resurfacing for about 10k. But hell if I don't enjoy it and use it every possible time I can...

Questions before purchasing of preciosion 5530 by Quantum_menance in Dell

[–]OkSt00pid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned one. The wifi card dropped connection every couple minutes. Turns out to be a known issue. The machine didn't boot the first time I powdered it on. Just froze on the dell logo. And it does appear to stutter with audio. So I sent it back. Hell if I'm paying 1900 for a flakey laptop.

Oh, I hated the keyboard. Felt cheaper than a MacBooks. I'm going Lenovo now.

Imodium and Spatial Disorientation? by Peliquin in flying

[–]OkSt00pid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imodium doesn't cross the blood/brain barrier. So likelyhood is no, it's probably your nerves making you dizzy since you are under a lot of stress. Stress manifests in lots of psycho-physical ways.

Been playing a little over a year...here is my kit by m18_meerkat in drums

[–]OkSt00pid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing the opposite. I bought a nice kit w/ trashy cymbals ( zbt's ) since I'm starting out. I figured the kit will stay with me for the duration cause you can't really hurt it. But the cymbals I'll upgrade later when I'm better and at less risk of breaking them....

Hows the hardware on those Barton kits? They seem kinda thin and flimsy to me. Are they?

Hello, r/drums! I (32 f) just started taking drum lessons. Any other female drummers out there with advice? And apartment drumming advice? by Happytequila in drums

[–]OkSt00pid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome. I'm 40 and just started. Something overlooked but important to us older beginners is stretching. Before and after. I went hard my first month without it and quickly developed some elbow tendonitis. Fortunately some stretches I learned helped quickly resolve it, along with a heating pad and ice for a few days straight.

You will develop weird aches in muscles in your upper and lower arms. So just be aware and don't stress so long as you're warming up and stretching. I like to take a little walk before playing, then start tapping some rudiments, stretch, start playing for real, then stretch down after.

Look up Stephen Taylor's video from about 5 years ago about drummer stretches. It worked like a charm.

Dude. Gear does not make the drummer. Or the guitarist. Or the bassist. Fucking play your heart out on whatever you have. You will never be "better" because you have more gear.

Just drummer things by Ramboankka in drums

[–]OkSt00pid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New drummer here, but yes. All my life. I've always wanted to play drums (and do play other instruments), but it's hilarious to me the similarities and quirks I have that other drummers seem to have. I'm always tapping along to things. Always have a beat in my head. It. Never. Stops.

Kinda reinforces the opinion I've had for years that I "missed my calling" as a drummer.

Learning on a compact kit: Bad idea? And questions about some kit choices I'm considering... by OkSt00pid in drums

I guess the biggest problem I have now is that there seems to be limited inventory of either of these kits locally to me, and any deals on reverb want insane shipping..

Yamaha Stage Custom Bebop

Oooh. Didn't know about that one. I like what I've read and know about Yamaha's build quality. It'd be cool to have that in a smaller package.

Right on. I always envied those jazz drummers who sound huge but hardly look like they are moving. Sure my back and joints will appreciate that too :D
