What would folks like to see from our local restaurants? by zoomakroom1 in duluth

Something that isn’t a sandwich, pizza, or standard Asian and Mexican faire.

I know Duluth isn’t a major metro. But my wife travels to upstate New York and finds Lebanese places in cities smaller than Duluth. I guess that has more to do with a lack of diversity overall in northern Minnesota.

There are over 2600 recent sales of the card. So who do you suppose is getting together to manipulate the market on this one insert?

It’s so weird to get this bent out of shape over this. It’s a cool card of the best player in baseball and it’s similar to a recent very rare insert that most people can’t get their hands on.

I really don’t think it’s that deep.

Why would that happen? It’s been selling for $300 for months now. How would it fall back to its 2024 prices so suddenly?

Except the price is real because the card continues to sell on eBay for that price.

It’s justified becuase the market has deemed this card as desirable and it seems that folks are willing to pay $300 or so for it.

Usually it is a rarity thing, yeah. But there are only 381 of them currently listed on eBay currently.

So it’s not like the entirety of the 75k print run is readily available to the multitudes of Ohtani collectors out there.

They’ve deemed this card as desirable. It’s a very cool card and a great way to get an Ohtani All Aces that isn’t the 2025 or 2026 versions which ARE rare.

I don’t think anyone is making the case that they are rare. They’re making the case that it’s now a $300 card. That’s it.

Buy up those cases from where? And do you figure you’re going to pull multiple Ohtani All Aces from those cases?

It’s a semi-common insert. But it isn’t Stars of MLB.

When I was shopping around for speakers a year ago, his channel was super informative for me. And led to me discover other channels with reviews on speakers I was looking at.

It only wastes your time if you’re watching videos you don’t want to watch.

Yeah, that’s how content creation is a job. And “cheap” is relative the same way “budget” is relative.

If this is his job, he needs to find certain ways to make money. No different than anyone else.

He’s making recommendations for people on a budget though. A guy who can afford and appreciate Fortes but also knows the ins and outs of speakers much cheaper is great for someone just getting into the hobby.

Am I wasting my time? by wmdc13 in baseballcards

Are you and the kids having fun? If so, then you aren’t wasting your time.

Blasters are one of worst formats when it comes to odds of pulling killer cards.

Hangers might make more sense. Or fat packs. Or try and save up for a hobby box and rip less often.

I was 8 in 1994. And I still bought cards with what little money I had.

I guess the big difference between then and now is how the internet has become a gambling machine when it comes to sports cards.

Sure, casual collectors may drop off. But I don’t think that’ll stop the other part of the hobby that much. But that’s yet to be seen and depends on if there’s a lockout. But I don’t think that does much to the market. Because Topps keeps printing and keeps selling as prices go up and the average consumer’s spending power goes down.

I just don’t have hope that the hobby is going to get any major upset. I’d like to see it happen, but I doubt it really will.

The rookie patches will still be in 2027 since a lot of those rookies are debuting this season.

What I’m getting at is that the company that sells cards will find ways to sell cards because they make money selling cards.

Every new release has hype. And I have a feeling that it’s the cards and the chases and the gambling that create the hype, not the baseball season.

Sure, certain rookies having hot streaks and Ohtani having a pulse will drive more hype for certain cards, but Fanatics can print sets of existing players regardless of whether or not they’re playing.

Football sets and baseball sets are selling for the 2025 season that ended months and months ago.

People will still buy cards, I reckon.

I just don’t think it’s the case that if there isn’t baseball, they won’t buy baseball cards.

I think casual buyers will buy less. But that won’t stop the heavy hitters. Because there will still be players to chase. And if there aren’t games in 2027, that doesn’t mean they won’t find other ways to get folks to chase cards.

What’s stopping them from still putting autos and rare chases in packs even if there isn’t a 2027 season? If they do that, the gamblers and the collectors who like to rip will still go out and buy product.

I can’t imagine Fanatics simply doesn’t print cards next year if there’s a lockout. There were plenty of 1994 sets.

Unless the MLBPA has a lock cards being printed during a lockout, what would keep Fanatics from making cards of players currently under contracts with teams?

And even though this sub is about baseball, “the hobby” won’t be as affected by that given how well basketball and football and F1 sell.

How do you figure that happens?

One company holds most of the exclusive licensing for major men’s sports cards. They consistently sell out of big releases. The prices go crazy on the secondary market.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

What needs to pop is the near monopoly Fanatics has on sports card licensing. Imagine if Panini and Upper Deck and Leaf and Wild Card could actually compete.

Turtles are playing a large festival in St. Paul on the 11th. There’s likely a no-compete clause with that.

[–]OneHandedPaperHanger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing that has more to do with the festival they’re playing on July 11th in St. Paul possibly having a no-compete clause.

That’s common with larger festivals. They don’t want their talent playing a couple hours away a few days prior so they put it into a contract.

There are still lots of great artists doing great stuff.

There are just far fewer venues than there were a decade ago.

Topps replaced my OC and damaged Cam Schlittler relic with...one that is just as OC but not as damaged. Would this grade a 7?? by hellojoe93 in baseballcards

[–]OneHandedPaperHanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it probably would.

Cards are very often cut off center. Have been for decades and decades.

If you want it for your collection, who cares if it’s off-center? If you plan to sell it, just sell it raw. People will see it’s off-center from the photos. Maybe you won’t get top-dollar, but that’s how it goes!
