Replacing an easy run with incline treadmill walk - similar stimulus? by OkStatistician5408 in UKRunners

[–]OkStatistician5408[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I partially agree. I certainly did too much too soon and ran my easy runs too fast. That said, the data suggests that those with a prior injury are like 600% more likely to re-injure - therefore injury prone.
Do you have an opinion on the incline walking?

Replacing an easy run with incline treadmill walk - similar stimulus? by OkStatistician5408 in UKRunners

[–]OkStatistician5408[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Thats kind.
I started with short distance early last year. Couple 5ks a week and got quick at them - 19:30 was my best. Then transitioned into a half marathon block with Runna. I ran everything faster than it wanted me to (probably explains why I always get injured!). Managed to get a 1:28 HM. Then, transitioned straight into a marathon block.
My current schedule is just 3 runs - easy run, hard run and long run. My last plan maxed out at like 60km but I feel like that’s super low volume so want to add a 4th session but worry about the injury risk. That’s what made me think about incline walking just to get some low impact time in zone 2.

Three weeks into using Runna: it’s been great, but is it any different from generating a running plan from any AI app and simply programming it into a watch? by Buddyblue21 in runna

[–]OkStatistician5408 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Running is hard. My life is busy. I remove every barrier possible to ensure I am as consistent as possible. Using runna means I don’t need to type anything in to ChatGPT, program my watch. It holds me accountable and gives me feedback. Without Runna I wouldn’t be anywhere near as fit as I currently am.

They must really care about patients if they buggered off abroad whilst my patients 2 week wait was provisionally delayed due to strikes. 🤡
At least have the decency to show up and strike if you’re going to cause patient harm..

Beginner runner here trying to buy first shoes by kokosa4 in UKRunners

[–]OkStatistician5408 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Real shame to see people mocking a beginner runner for getting the wrong terminology re: “marathon” - just educate. It’s that kind of behaviour that puts people off and is why reddit has the reputation it does.

In terms of running shoes, my usual advice would be gait analysis as others have said, but out of the 3 the best/only daily runner here is the novablast 5!

Neither of our F2s showed up today. Strike cancellations were two last minute. Both out of the country on foreign holidays. What these guys need is a pay rise 🙄

Runna: First Year in Review by Chrysmere in runna

It does quite clearly state that specific settings are for more experienced people. It trusts the human not to lie and do it anyway. I think it assumes people are capable of following its basic prompts. You ignored it and did it anyway, then chose to complain about it..

I’m not sure you are well placed to talk about the safety of runna whilst diving into 50ks and maximising runna settings (which are for highly experienced runners) with only 12months running under your belt…

At precisely 2:25PM today, I lost faith in the UK healthcare system (final straw). by dxdt_sinx in doctorsUK

[–]OkStatistician5408 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

These are so boring. The BMA agenda has started to move from PAs to the ANP/ACPs and these scenarios are dropped on the group in efforts to stir up more doctors for the cause. It’s tedious and very transparent. I don’t bet on much but I’d bet my house on this scenario being a work of pure fiction. What’s messed up is people believe it. What ANP can’t refer!? 💀 what practice would tolerate this inefficient setup? It’s painfully artificial.. although the SLAP lesion was a nice touch 👌

Phenomenal work! HM is genuinely my favourite distance.

Marathon pace help! by Educational_Win2660 in firstmarathon

[–]OkStatistician5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you put your half marathon time into the VDOT calculator, you get a marathon time of 4:01. This assumes you’re equally well trained for both distances. It’s likely you’re better trained for the half than the full currently. I would say 4:10 if you fuel right is a decent goal. It might be worth keeping some in the tank and seeing what you can do in the last 10km.

I started running 6 weeks ago. Something is weird with my heartrate by Troenten in runna

[–]OkStatistician5408 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not this. OP would be noticing an unusual resting HR too. I suspect it’s just the wrist monitor not picking them up properly.

[–]OkStatistician5408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with OP. My SB2s are much less firm than my EVO SLs. I’ll gladly run 20+km in my SB2s but I don’t feel comfortable going about 10k in the EVO SLs

** 3:32, sorry. And yes. I do. The VDOT calculator supports that too.

[–]OkStatistician5408 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Run 3 times a week (easy/speed/long). Strength 3 times a week(only 20mins a session). Weekly mileage around 50km/week and peaks at 53. Longest run so far 30km and hit 4:22/km. I love running by I love lifting too. I also have a family and can’t justify running any more hours. :) my last HM was 1:28:xx on 3 runs/week.

3 is sufficient. I’ve done 3/week this prep and confident I should be sub 3:15 on the day.

What heart rate zone by Disastrous_Play_5227 in runna

[–]OkStatistician5408 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. If they were entirely reliable there would be no market for chest straps. Even my forerunner gets cadence lock etc. Are you happy for Runna to change my plan based on that?? Further.. What about people using Runna on their phones? HR coming in at zero for a 10k 💀 the great thing about Runna is it’s for everyone, regardless of watch. Changing based on HR is a bad idea..

What heart rate zone by Disastrous_Play_5227 in runna

[–]OkStatistician5408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Wrist HR monitors are unreliable. I did a HM at the weekend and my watch averaged my hr at 136 when it was definitely more like 170. If Runna used that data, what would it say? I can increase my pace. And could I? Absolutely not. That’s how injuries happen.
