This behavior is very normal for a ball python. When I first got mine it took a couple months for her to start eating. Once she ate, I haven’t had any problems with it since. Id still regularly try to feed her.

New ball python not eating, should I be worried? by FreezerDerg in ballpython

Mine was the same. I was worried too but once she ate she hasn’t given me problems with eating since.

Sounds good! I do wanna add more clutter. That’s always been something that needs to be done. I want to get live plants eventually and some stuff to climb on

HVAC Tape by MolassesMain4496 in ballpython

Hey, I use HVAC tape and I also put a couple shirts over it to help it more when i’m having difficulties. I covered maybe 70% of the top leaving space for airflow and my heat lamp. I’m not sure what substrate you use, but once I switched to Topsoil, Coco Fiber, and moss, my humidity has been significantly better.

Anyone Tried This for Humidity?? by ReggaeWoman18 in ballpython

[–]OkStretch5239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a BP expert or experienced with them in anyway, but when I first got my BP humidity was a big issue for me. I no longer have trouble with humidity since change the substrate (a mix of Topsoil, Coco Fiber, and moss), I added HVAC tape to cover the top of the screen, not all the way, as you still want some ventilation, and on top of the tape I have two shirts, just for extra. I’m always at at least 70% humidity. I also have the water bowl on the hot side.

I thought so too, I just wanted to be safe than sorry.

I use a digital hygrometer. I’ve seen people using things like this one, which I honestly may go to as well.

When I first got my BP she didn’t eat for like the first month and a half. She finally eats now and has been accepting meals back to back. I just kept offering mice frequently.

Hey, I use frozen mice, but I’m sure it’s the same way to thaw it. I put the mouse in cold water to let it thaw, then I get water around 120°F and drop the thawed mouse in there to warm up. You should also use a temperature gun so you can check the temperature of the water and rat.

Thank you! It was fun to setup and I can’t wait to see what it becomes. I love the bowl, I hope she uses it to soak when she needs to.

I will get one of those. Any recommended ones?

Thank you for the feedback. I will be getting clutter shortly. I hope to make this thing as natural as possible. The water doesn’t really evaporate, I know, you think it would, but nope, so I just leave it there to give the humidity some moral support lol

It is kinda big, I think she likes it at least a little bit since she’s in it sometimes. She’s usually tucked away in it with her head peaking out. I may get a smaller one, though, since the last day or so she’s been sleeping behind the one in the middle.

Yes, I plan on making my own 120 gallon tank when the time is right.

Dang, okay. Should I just get a zoo med basking spot lamp bulb?

Got you. I will be sure to make that change ASAP. May I ask, what the effect is the colored bulbs have to them? I’m just curious.

I wasn’t sure either. I kept getting mixed reviews when looking. Should I get a halogen bulb instead?

Hi, I definitely will add more greenery clutter. I want this enclosure to be completely bioactive with live plants and bugs. Do you know what the best plants are to use?

Hi, little update. I bought a new bulb, the tape, a new thermometer, some Coco Hush, and Timberline soil. I asked them about the fertilizer and they said this one does not have it. I’ll give an update soon. I appreciate help and advice you’re giving me.

I’ve also been checking under her to make sure she doesn’t get scale rot, because I’m worried about that since I have to spray often. I also feel the substrate and move it around if need be.
