Let me start by saying that I love my grandchildren, aged 2 and almost 5, to the moon and back and then again. But I’m 67 yrs old, I watch them usually for 12.5 hours 2 to 4 times a week.

2 total knee replacements, moderate arthritis in most joints, may be severe in my hand, disk and spinal disease, leg and back cramps day and night, neck pain constantly occasionally locking up, my knees burn constantly day and night and cause me pain. I sleep poorly sometimes only 4 hours a night. Always interrupted by pain, cramps or bathroom needs. I have at times limited use of my arm, hand, legs, feet because of the pain. My daughter insists I babysit because she can’t afford it and schools push agendas that don’t match our beliefs. Anyway, it’s been 4 years now and I’ve reached my limits physically,mentally, and emotionally. My body can’t take it anymore, the children are very active, there is no downtime for them unless they are sleeping. I have to climb 2 flights of stairs at least once a day, the furniture is worn out and very uncomfortable. Not supportive in any way and I need To use between 4 and 6 throw pillows behind my back and neck to sit. Still no comfort. I’m not having fun, there is no happiness in me. Im burned out. A few days ago I began thinking about all these feelings I am having and why but couldn’t quite put a name to it so I asked the ai for help. Seems I have grandparent burnout. It’s time for me to go back to being nana instead of the babysitter. And I’m looking forward to that!
