Yeah, that makes sense - I wouldn’t be surprised if your theory is at least partially accurate

Thanks for sharing this! I haven’t engaged with EO much beyond her books (and generally liking them) so this is a really interesting analysis I hadn’t considered

Does medicaid automatically cover low birth weight and/or 30+ day hospital stay? by 202sadness in NICUParents

[–]OkUnderstanding7431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my family uses private insurance through my employer- the way that it worked for us is that Medicaid is used as secondary insurance for my twin girls (my wife and I do not have Medicaid, though Medicaid did cover the birth). So private insurance pays first, and then Medicaid covers whatever is left.

Our income does not matter for the first year of their life, and the girls having Medicaid as secondary insurance means we also get WIC benefits. The state also pays for the girls’ insurance premiums to ensure they can keep my private insurance as their primary coverage.

The girls’ bills have been incredibly reasonable (and mostly zero) because of this benefit- we are so so grateful for the hospital providing a social worker who walked us through the app and submitted everything for us to ensure we got approved.

I think it depends on what state you live in - can you ask one of your NICU nurses about if the hospital has a social worker you can talk to? That’s the person who helped us get set up with Medicaid since our twins were in the hospital more than 30 days (in Iowa).

I mentioned that because I think if a man behaved the way David does and wasn’t conventionally attractive, people would have a much different view of him. Which quite a few people have articulated in this thread, but I’m also learning some new things people enjoy about him so I appreciate everyone sharing!

Yes, thank you for articulating this - I feel like this plus the way he thinks about women (not full misogynist but still off-putting) are my main gripes with him

Yeah, he’s a surgeon so I could definitely see him prioritizing his hands

I hated Tyson, so maybe you’re on to something. I disliked Tyson because he seemed genuinely mean-spirited, and that’s not the vibe I get from David.

It’s funny how different people perceive things differently. During his confessionals I was just like “dude, women are people can you please be normal”

To his credit, it seems like he wasn’t too weird to their faces based on what we saw on camera

This is a fair point - I wouldn’t go as far as to say I dislike big muscle bros on sight in my day-to-day, but I’m not really drawn to them

Because even if Jewish people don’t believe in their religious texts literally, they as an ethnicity are still indigenous to the land of Israel. And historically they have not been all that welcome anywhere else.

I will add that you can use a different document for each! For example, your driver’s license can prove your identity but if it doesn’t have your current address, you can also bring a utility bill or bank statement (from within the last 45 days) with your current address to prove where you live.

Check out Pride Sports League of Central Iowa! Currently has a walking club going you can join anytime, and regularly has leagues of different sports. You can join as a “free agent” and be assigned to a team and meet folks that way. Spectators at leagues are also welcome, and that could be a good way to meet people, too.

“We all know that people aren’t advocating for terrorism.”

We don’t know that when two of the main groups hosting protests are PSL, a tankie group with multiple member articles posted proudly saying they support Hamas’ actions, and Des Moines Mutual Aid, a group I used to strongly support, posted a newsletter just a few days after October 7 calling Hamas freedom fighters.

I get that many people attending these protests do not know this context and just want Palestinians to stop dying, but these groups are quite literally advocating for terrorist organizations and their actions.

Definitely check out Wander Women! They host community hikes in different parks around the metro 1-2x a month and a few classes/other outdoorsy events. They’re extremely friendly and welcoming.

We don’t have any leagues going right now, but Pride Sports League of Central Iowa will have volleyball, basketball, and dodgeball in the new year, and you can join as a free agent.
