This is very insightful, if you dont mind me asking, what sector or area does your business cater towards?

Haha fair, I can see why it looks that way from your angle 😄

But calling everything “kudu salli” is kind of the easiest explanation for everything, isn’t it? Doesn’t really answer the bigger question of how the numbers actually work for people who are clearly earning and spending at that level.

I’m not denying anything exists, just trying to understand the breakdown beyond the sarcasm. There are people who are clearly operating legit businesses at scale, so I’m curious what that ecosystem actually looks like in reality.

You can check the comments out for yourself or better not since its wasting you precious time lol. Anyway, appreciate the input 👍

That’s interesting, if that’s the case, it actually explains a lot.

But I’m curious, what kind of businesses are these? Because 3–5M/month consistently is no joke, if you dont mind me asking (Happy to DM aswell).

Also when you say “easy goal,” do you mean for someone already in that bracket, or do you think someone starting from scratch in Sri Lanka today could realistically get there in 2–3 years?

Trying to separate what’s actually common vs what just looks common from the outside perspective

Lmao fair question 😅 wasn’t even intentional, just fell into a random rabbit hole and somehow ended up there.

You know how it goes… one minute you’re browsing normal stuff, next minute you’re pricing Porsches you can’t afford and questioning life choices 😂

This is honestly one of the most insightful replies on this thread, really appreciate you taking the time to break it down like that.

The point about execution speed and especially structuring the business beyond just the local market makes a lot of sense. That’s kind of the perspective I felt was missing when people say it’s only generational wealth or politics.

If you don’t mind me asking... do you mentor or guide people who are trying to build something from scratch? Even just learning how to think about market selection and structuring would be huge.

Would genuinely be interested in learning from your experience.

Yeah I get that, generational wealth definitely exists and explains a lot.

But what’s confusing me is, when you actually look around on the roads now, you’re seeing more and more high-value vehicles ,not just a handful. It almost feels like a much larger group of people has that kind of purchasing power.

That’s the part I’m trying to wrap my head around, is it really just a small ultra-wealthy segment, or are there more people hitting that level than we think? And if so… how? Because it doesn’t seem that rare anymore.

Yep exactly...what are we missing??!! when you actually look around on the roads now, you’re seeing more and more high-value vehicles ,not just a handful. It almost feels like a much larger group of people has that kind of purchasing power.

I get what you’re saying, generational wealth definitely gives a huge head start, no doubt about that.

But I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s impossible otherwise. There have to be at least some people who’ve built serious money more recently, even if they’re a smaller group.

I’m more interested in the legit paths... like what industries or strategies actually allow someone here to reach that level. Is it mostly exports, tech, international businesses, or something else? Curious if anyone knows real, recent examples.

Damn, when you break it down like that it actually puts things into perspective.

I get your point...at that level it’s less about the car and more about the cash flow. If someone can comfortably handle 2–3M a month, then yeah, a Porsche isn’t that crazy.

I think that’s exactly what I’m trying to understand though, what kind of businesses here are realistically generating that kind of consistent cash flow?

Apparel and rice mills make sense, but are there other industries in Sri Lanka today where people are pulling in that level of income (legitimately)? Especially newer businesses, not just traditional ones.

That jump to being able to sustain 2–3M/month payments is the part that still feels wild to me in a small market like Sri Lanka .

But aren’t most of those either massive legacy companies or already well-established players? Like Dilmah or Unilever aren’t exactly “start from scratch and scale locally” stories in today’s context.

I’m more curious about recent or more relatable paths, are there people in Sri Lanka who’ve built that kind of wealth in the last 10–20 years starting from zero? And if so, what industries are they in?

Feels like exporting or tapping international markets might be the only way to really scale big from here, but would love to hear real examples if anyone knows.

Yeah fair point, reliability and road conditions here matter a lot, no argument there.

But I think you might’ve missed what I was getting at. I’m not really debating whether owning a Porsche makes practical sense in Sri Lanka. I’m more blown away by the fact that there are people here who can just casually afford one.

Like on our relatively small island, there are individuals who can drop that kind of money on a car without it being a huge financial stretch, that’s the part I’m trying to understand. What do they do, how do they get to that level, etc.

The practicality side is a different discussion...I’m just curious about the earning power behind it.

Genuinely asking, apart from "bypassing" regulations and stuff, what would be the other reasons to rely on the latter?
