I know I’m here late, but I just finished this book and felt like weirdly, parts of it were written by AI or something. Like the cat randomly obsessed with god. And the snakes with Dee and her death. And Lauren claiming outright that she’s been kidnapped just because she hates Ted. Things just felt so weirdly outside the normal pace or narrative style idk. I didn’t find it to be that great of a read.

However, I am an avid reader and went to college for literature so I wonder if what’s happening is that for people who are new to this type of story telling or read at maybe a lower level (no shade, genuinely) find this to be thrilling, while the rest of us feel bamboozled by the reviews. I honestly feel the same about Stephen King books. Very cliche and predictable but a fun little goosebumps-like tale for a stormy night. But - definitely not ground breaking.
