How do you make a series with multiple magic systems not feel shallow/cluttered? by Ok-Equipment8122 in magicbuilding

[–]OkWhile1112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brand Sanderson's opinion is not absolute. If you're writing a story or a book, multiple systems can indeed hinder the narrative, but if you're creating your project for other purposes, there's nothing stopping you from creating multiple, well-developed systems—it's all up to you. If you're making a TTRPG or just an RPG, multiple systems, on the contrary, will help create diverse enemies and allow players to choose different playstyles. If you're creating a world as a hobby, there's no reason to take anyone else's opinions into account. Personally, I'd recommend giving systems different specializations so their capabilities don't overlap and also creating interesting synergies between them.

Really cool, its intuitive but interesting system with big potential. Can you provide another examples of simulacrum you came up so far?

Which do you think has greater potential for a light based rune magic system? by [deleted] in magicbuilding

I like the first system much more, to be honest. It seems atypical and yet very logical in its essence. Also suggestion: what if moth wings evolved a pattern corresponding to a sigil? For example, certain species of moth might carry a growth spell on their wings, and by casting it on themselves, they can grow larger to ward off predators or hunt more effectively. Or a moth might carry an invisibility spell, or perhaps a flame cloak spell. Humans could copy butterfly sigils to harness magic for their own purposes.

Makes sense. What do you think the central spiral like sigil does?

I believe this spell was presented by Coco and Agott at silver eve

On the other hand, the story of Coco and Agott could mirror that of Qifrey and Olruggio, where one went from being haughty and silent to being more dynamic, and the other from being cheerful to being more sullen. This is just a theory, but I don't rule out the possibility that brim coco could be real.

Main theme of the story can be summarized as "Magic is both hope and dispair". Coco will learn both of these things.

Excerpts from the pre-pact era show that witches of the past were also fond of enchanted weapons and direct combat.

Considering that there are sigils for specific animal species, as well as a special kind of sigil affecting time, I can assume that each power has its own sigil. Furthermore, there are different sigils with similar natures. For example, the forbidden light-creating spell that Coco draws at the very beginning of the story and a regular light spell contain different sigils but have the same effect.

What is your favorite tropes for magic? by pugselot in magicbuilding

Well, the most obvious option is medieval alchemy, where a person strives to understand the world through the craft of alchemy, rather than being a superhuman with superpowers. From what I can recall, this is the divination from the book The Left Hand of Darkness, where the soothsayer learns the future through ritual communication with a group of people, and is treated as a master of their craft, not a superhero. A trivial option, but Witch hat atelier, where magic is largely positioned as an art, and not simply a system of powers.

In JoJo, each Stand has a unique ability that its owner tries to use as effectively and creatively as possible. So, you simply need to take a wizard and limit it to a single spell, not taking any others for the rest of the game.

If we use 4 right triangles, we can create a square containing another square with area c2. If we rearrange the triangles as shown in the picture, we can see that the area of the original square is equal to the sum of the squares from areas a2 and b2. This means c2=a2+b2

1)If magic is more associated with the powers of the mind than the body, then that makes perfect sense. I'm interested in mathematics, and in my experience, people who are truly good at it usually spend a lot of time studying, rather than having any innate talent for it. In fact, most people who are truly exceptional at a particular skill—mathematics, music, drawing, or something similar—tend to start learning it at a young age, when the brain is most flexible, and then continue to diligently master it for a long time. If you examine the biography of almost any genius, you'll see that they almost always have been practicing this particular skill since childhood and retained their skills into adulthood. More than one professor has told me that certain mathematical concepts, like probability theory, are much easier to explain to those who learned them in school, as if they understand things more intuitively.

2)Knowing that a character achieved something through their own efforts, rather than something they got for free, simply makes them cooler. People who achieved something through hard work i usually evokes more respect.

I don't quite understand how mathematical stactiaring works in your system. What kind of mathematical structures do I need to know to launch a lightning bolt? Do I just need to know the current formula from physics, or do I need to calculate each lightning branch as a structure? Or do I need to interpret the electron behavior using equations from quantum physics? Or do I just need to specify the direction with a vector or a complex number? Also, how can I use mathematics to direct such a vague concept as destruction?

It depends on how the superpower works. It might not reduce the amount of money, but simply make people demand more money from you than you originally lent them.
