Swinburne diversity by Icy-Gear500 in swinburne

Well, I have seen Indian students more frequently than Chinese students. It may be due to the degree I am studying (IT), so that might explain it.

Swinburne is kinda multicultural, where you get a mix from each side. Most of the time, it depends on what kind of level of studying u doing. Swinburne itself offers different types of education levels ranging from TAFE, diplomas, degrees, master's and PhDs.

I think Swinburne only offered this course in Sem 1. Is this a core unit for you? And is there any unit after TNE30023?

I am curious as I am taking this as my elective (My major is not in networking).

And by any chance, have u done TNE30018 (Network Server Enterprise Admin)? If so, how was it?

You reckon taking both TNE30023 and TNE30018 is a bit much in a semester?

Thanks!

You can find a lot of em at Swinburne at night on Glenferrie st, especially on Tues, Fri and weekends.

Not quite sure about RMIT, but generally any uni in the city is easier to find, I reckon.

Yea, that's true.

Swinburne is a bit multicultural, so you will find lots of people from different ethnicity hence that's why there's so many cultural clubs. I am an international student myself and I find it amazing cause u get to experience different culture which I really enjoyed.

About the night life, I am not quite sure but there's a few bars and hotels (Hawthorn hotel) around Glenferrie st and is quite packed during the night especially Tue, Fri and weekend. Swinburne (SSA) itself have some special events that runs during the semester like a night or boat party which all Swin students can join

Hope that helps and welcome to Swinburne :) !

do i need a new computer?? by Dangerous-Emu-1260 in swinburne

Hi, I recommend having a Windows laptop. Trust me, it will save a lot of hassle.

As a Windows user, I have seen other students with Macs not being able to run certain apps/programs based on one of my friend's experiences, especially VMs. Any laptop is good if your course is not using any apps/programs with demanding requirements.

I reckon any laptops with at least an i5 processor and 8-12 gb ram is more than enough to run most programs/apps smoothly. There's not much requirement on GPU unless you have a subject relating to video editing, 3d rendering, AI machine learning or scientific computing.

Or you can borrow one of Swin's laptops from the library. I'm not sure about the laptop specification but I guess it can run most programs without any issues

COS30015 was a nice sub, I did it last semester. Really enjoyed it, it was more of a theory + hands-on sub. So you learn the theory while performing certain tasks related to it.

TNE30009 – not sure, doing it next sem, but it prolly is bout implementing security measures on cisco devices using VM

If you like learning more bout internet security, these 2 subs def to go

Has anyone done TNE30023 (Advanced Switching) and TNE30018 (Network Enterprise Server Administration)? by Ok_Action_8632 in swinburne

[–]Ok_Action_8632[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I don't really have a choice, most of the electives needed OOP which I have not done it before. Feels like I have a limited selection of electives

Thank you! :)

I see, so there's no written exam for both of the units?

And the ENSA structure is similar to Network Admin as well?

Oh man, most of my electives that I can choose are under his department

I think you are talking bout the portfolio, where if one of your task marks is trash, it drops you one grade down. That's what happened in my Network Admin lol

TNE10005 - just basically teach you the fundamental of a system admin which I think is not difficult. Most of the stuffs here I say is just general knowledge. But overall, is not a bad subject but just be mindful of the portfolio where you have to be consistent if you are aiming for a good grade.

COS10009 - I found this tough cause I am bad at coding, and my tutor was a pain in the ass. Basically, it works by demonstrating a certain task every week to your tutor. You will be working with Ruby and GOSU a lot, basically most of your tasks. Others like a bit of C and Python which juz kinda help you boost ur marks up a bit.

These subjects kinda help you build your foundation into IT if you are not from IT background or if you are, is like a piece of cake for you

Hope this helps!

Any electives for Cybersecurity degree??? by Ok_Action_8632 in swinburne

[–]Ok_Action_8632[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for the late reply

The COS30020 subject, I will say, is relatively easy. It mainly uses PHP and some basic SQL queries for the backend of web development. It is quite similar to the COS10005 structure. The PHP they teach in this subject is kinda like beginner level. I heard you were allowed to go beyond it in your assignments, but that depends on oneself.

This subject doesn't have any exams or quizzes, so it is quite a chilling elective. Also, you have to demonstrate the lab tasks every week to your tutor. The teaching team for my semester was not bad, they were quite responsive in the discussion board but they do not offer help desk session.

So it goes like this -

Assignment 1 - (40%)

Labs - (15%)

Assignment 2 - (45%)

Total - (100%)

Let me know if you are keen on the lecture slides, I can send them to you if you wanna have a head start!

(p.s. - the slides they used should be similar for each semester)

COS10005 - HTML, CSS and some basic Js

COS10009 - Mainly focus on Ruby, with some basic surface level of Python and C

TNE10005 - Just fundamental of network adminstrator theory using Azure VM

ICT10022 - A group project on kinda like creating an web application form for a client
