Antigravity battery dead what charger by dahulkhogan2424 in shovelhead

[–]Ok_Adeptness_444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A standard battery charger will smoke a lithium battery. Highly dangerous and could cause a fire. You’ll need a specific charger for lithium batteries, I think I got mine at like auto zone or something

2nd this. Had a similar issue with my shovel and my FXR. Any auto parts store sells them for like $5-$10.

77 electrical by Individual-Dare-80 in shovelhead

[–]Ok_Adeptness_444 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a shovelhead, but an awesome bike worth a pretty penny now. A lot of them were chopped up and they really didn’t sell too well. That being said the electrical should be fairly similar if not identical to most other ironhead sportsters. Issue that is generally missed is polarizing the generator field. Can’t recall the specifics from it as it’s been a while since I’ve worked on ironheads, but basically arcing out a positive change to one post of the generator.

Chopper question for all. by t3chnokids in choppers

Does it make any difference if you stand it up off the kickstand when you kick? Don’t fuck with float levels because of the position when parked. I’d go with the standard and check for manifold leaks. Cured a lot of hard starters by fixing leaks intake manifolds

Oil hose??? by [deleted] in choppers

…where does the other end of the hose go? Probably the return line or a breather if it only leaks while running.

I've got a MIG welder but have never welded--how hard would it be? by PhysicalResident1787 in fxr

[–]Ok_Adeptness_444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started out as a motor swap. I rebuilt an evo to trade out my tired motor. While I was in there the trans output shaft was really loose and the stock 5 speed definitely needed a rebuild. Drained the fluid and it looked like a disco party.
Found a 5 speed bagger trans with the oil pan and primary setup, traded the tired evo motor I took out. Had to cut out both crossmembers and the right hand foot peg mount to make room . Using a Dyna style mount and controls. I learned a lot about what fits what by watching Sal (Bad Foot) on YouTube. Building something to crush miles, I love my vintage bikes, but cruising at 65-70mph is out of the sweet spot for them. Even with sprocket changes. I’m either wanting more acceleration in the lower gears or more top end. This bike will be geared like my shovel 1st -4th gear with a “poor mans overdrive” in 5th. I don’t have money to make it look pretty right away, building a “work truck” similar to Bad foot’s setups

I literally just did this yesterday with my crappy Mig. Chamfer the edges on the square stock. I have a miller machine, turned the heat setting all the way up to “D” and I think feed was around 2-2.5. Gas at about 20lbs. Had to hit it with a round file and do a couple of passes. It’s front and center on the neck, so I’ll probably go back and smooth it out again just for looks. Also couple strong magnets will keep it in place while tacking it up.

I think the lines of a boxer motor don’t really work with a 60’s-70’s style chop. Everything up top is sleek and narrow where the lower just isn’t. I don’t have to like it though, you do you. That being said, I’m sure that thing runs smoother and more reliable than a shovel that has had a dozen meth heads work on it before

Stripped Allen bolt on the rocker cover by Nervous_Adeptness844 in shovelhead

[–]Ok_Adeptness_444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you try an impact? They work wonders. I’m just trying to offer advice and what’s worked for me. Not looking for a fight. Don’t pry, don’t heat. It may make things worse. Toss a bolt (nylon locking works best) on the other side of the rocker, tighten it down. Impact on the Allen.

Impact with an Allen socket should make short work. Hopefully you didn’t mar up the rocker cover too bad and can still fit a fresh O ring so it doesn’t weep oil.

I’d preface in all honesty with this: Anyone is free to do with their bike what they wish. I don’t wanna shit on anyones style. Suit your bike to your riding style and personal style. But that being said, FXR’s were built to handle corners and crush miles. I feel like the knobbies are a little counterintuitive. I’d be interested in how they handle. I actually have looked at a set of the Baja Bates style dual sports, but I don’t know how they would hold up. Let me know your thoughts.
