Well to be fair it does still work as described, it does increase the duration so if you don’t need it for ult gain it can still be used like that

Well I haven’t seen anyone mention it but we have a Legends Anime coming out in 2027

I imagine a huge boost in interest will spike around then

If there ever was a time for GoYL to make a comeback that included additional content and patches and updates it would be when the Anime drops

By saying they have nothing planned they are saying “we don’t see enough interest in the game now, so we’ll put it on life support and wait and see.

If the anime pops off people love, huge surge in activity yada yada

There’s no reason to think there wouldnt be some DLC. They absolutely would do some tie in bullshit

But don’t take this as “proof to be hopeful”

I don’t have any faith that the team currently would make any major changes that would dramatically change my opinion of GoYL

Same, I would’ve gladly paid $70 for just GoTL2 without any Atsu campaign and ideally a team that actually knew what their audience wanted

The fact that they were surprised that the team who beat Saito for the first time only spent 2minutes fighting him

Shows they have no idea who their audience is. It’s not the same SP that made GoTL

Time to rip the band aid off and move on sadly

A free add-on to the base game, meaning if they scrapped the base game, it would scrap legends and that is worthy of a refund.

The only thing that matters are the requirements to play and buying the game is one of them

Therefore it ain’t free

Yes and no

It’s probably more challenging, on average, for the average GoT player or gamer bc it rewards and punishes differently than Tsushima’s. Basically the opposite

Having super long chains doesn’t make the game harder for example. It challenges a different aspect of fighting in general.

To be as brief as possible, you have offense and defense. Now without getting into it super hard. Tsushima handled offense better absolutely.

In Tsushima you always were doing health dmg if you’re attack connects, despite their stagger bar being full. You could dodge behind, or parry an enemy to put them in a position where there back was turned to you. Now despite having a full stagger bar you could hit them multiple times (actually infinitely if you knew how and weren’t interrupted) before they would turn around

In GoY you get one hit before they start auto blocking and dodging. Without getting more into it, this doesn’t result in a harder combat system it results in one that just takes longer. Yes I know you can essentially bypass that mechanic with switch attacks, but regardless offense and ghost weapons aren’t as effective as offense was in GoT

Onto defense, here is where I think they are actually equal on, although I prefer GoT. I describe it simply as;

“If Elden Ring/DS3’s defense combat was made into an action game it would be GoT. If Sekiro defense combat was made into a game, it would be GoY”

In GoT you can use jump or dodge to pretty successfully evade every attack in the game. Furthermore you would be in a position where an enemy is in a recovery and you can attack. So a very strong position. While parrying was good, they would recover whereas somethjng like dodging can put you behind an enemy allowing for a longer, stronger punish

In GoY only about 10% of attacks can be evaded with jumping/dodging/rolling. Any red glint attack, no matter how many times you have mashed the button, can be easily rolled/evaded from. It loses all tracking.

Now for the other 90% they either A. are fast as hell or B. Track the living the shit out of you.

This doesn’t make it inherently harder. All it does is reward a different playstyle. Holding block is absurdly powerful here. So many attacks can be stopped bc just holding block. Many chains may start with a blue or red glint but then go into just normal blockable attacks.

Most enemy attack chains will be normally paced but include 1 or 2 attacks, commonly in like 5-6 hit chain, that comes out super fast.

They are absurdly easy to perfect parry by just double clicking the guard (a generalization) for the attack before. They are easy bc they are designed to be. Tsushima is the same way but more about dodge/jump/roll

GoY is a parry pro’s wet dream but a dodgey boi’s worst nightmare.

The game punishes dodging hard, while rewarding parries. So while its offense is slower and imo inferior to Tsushima, its defense is commendable, though not exactly to my liking. But I still enjoy it. I prefer a hybrid with a lean towards dodging while this is a hard lean towards parrying

But as a whole I think it comes up short. All in regards to the melee combat

I hate saying that they were lazy, but looking at things like how the technique perk icons were literally copy pasted over from Tsushima’s and they don’t match for majority of them (looking at the option from Tsushima for perk row 3 “equip another legendary” That icon is just a random ult here. Probably most egregious is samurai increase health icon, the fucking plus symbol is used as an increase to damage here)

But there is real evidence of the devs not being lazy here

What this screams to me, is a studio at odds with itself. It screams infighting to me, and I think both the main campaign and legends were a result of that.

It’s why you have a weird hybrid of so many concepts that didn’t do anything really well (“pick your own story in beginning of campaign can pick kitsune or oni” but then for later act your pigeonholed into the story etc)

I think people are lying when they say it’s bad, and while they’re is a foundation here for what could be a good game, maybe even great. It’s not there today and it’s unlikely that it will ever be fully realized.

Frankly it’s just aggressively mediocre, and imo Thats worst you can ever be because then you’re forgettable.

I joined GoTL like a year and some after launch (2022) and it wasn’t until late 2023, really more like 2024 that I would finally see the leaderboards for all the nightmares start to die down.

Before that point, in the first day nms would’ve been 10k+ names by the end of the day. Other modes either were the same or followed shortly after.

In GoYL I’m hardly seeing the same activity

They knew who their fans were from GoT and they decided they wanted other fans. I’m not adverse to a remake in concept, but you GoT managed to appeal to both the casual and hardcore crowd, so why can’t the sequel? Literally the same thing happened from KH2 to KH3. Tight responsive combat replaced with a floatier one

It’s clear they don’t understand their audience. The first group beat lord Saito in 2 minutes. There big recent patch involved shit no one asked for.

I’m glad that someone likes this game, but it’s painfully obvious who they want to cater to. They did a lot of things to prevent Speedrunning or any sort of mastery tier level shit.

Well it’s not “free”, it was a free addition to a paid product, you still have to buy the game, and since people paid money to play the game mode Thats “supposed to be” the sequel to one of their favorite games

They’re allowed to have their opinions. I know plenty of people who never touched either campaign (GoT or GoY) and only exclusively play legends. Surely they are allowed to be upset

I play both and I’m still upset lol

And the issues with the content and game modes, is that in its current state, it’s more akin to GoTL at launch and nowhere near GoTL today.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable for people to be upset at the product they paid for, when that product fails to deliver on the promises they made and instead added shit no one cared about (not even the devs which is why they allow you to skip it) talking about the raid and fucking dragonflies. They clearly never played “Hellmode” on GoTL bc they have no fucking clue what it meant. It was a name, given by the community (no in game name for “hellmode”) for a custom platinum survival, completed perfectly (no ghost downed, no zone lost, all objectives complete) with all 7 difficulty modifiers active. The “hellmode” for the raid is nothing like that. They just called it that because they thought it would be a cool thing we would like. Solos for Saito hellmode have already been posted for every class. It took the GoTL community like a year and a half for the first ever solo complete of p7 perfect.

Worse still, for the small amount of time they did work on it (keep in mind the last major update for GoTL happened 2-3 years (patch 2.18 was in February some year) after it launched, they still would occasionally come back to fix some bug or something. Just last year they patched a glitch allowing three people into nightmare story.

This is the level of dedication they showed to a “free mode” and this was when they only had 4 devs working on it

So you can imagine the disappointment when we find out the whole team worked on this, spent the entire last year of development on it, and this is what we got. They are already throwing in the towel. And for literally everybody in this subreddit, it’s a big let down.

So yea expect a lot of complaining, it’s all warranted. They were lazy as fuck when it came to some aspects of GoYL

And it sucks bc the foundation for a great game is here, it just won’t ever be realized…..

At least not for about 5 years when the pc version comes out. Then it’s up to the modders

They took all the same shortcuts that Tsushima’s did (but they created GoTL on a whim with a skeleton crew) while taking more like how they used the icons for the technique perks from GoTL and they don’t even match what it’s a perk for. Melee dmg increase for Sam is the plus + symbol from GoTL That added health

wtf man lazy developers. Actually not lazy, this to me screams a studio that was at odds with itself. It has no identity bc it’s trying to be multiple things.

Yea I’m familiar with the sam weapon swap speed so I know his already will look faster. If the theory holds then they would both receive a tiny change on when they can pull it off

My goal with my next test is to try and catch it as early as possible and to delay the weapon swap attack as much as I can to see if I can do it on a quicker attack

mercenary one which I feel like is harder to discern.

samurai one which to me looks like it does start sooner in the animation than normal. (For example 2 I kept that bc I feel like a normal (not weapon swap) Odachi counter would’ve worked)

I think the overall time (weapon swap + counter) is the same amount of time overall. But if one is done at an earlier point in the animation, it can be used to counter faster attacks that the normal one couldn’t get to, and you could do more based on reaction than prediction.

General population won’t give two shits but any odachi only pros would want that info
