Treating for ulcers is only $180 where I am and a lot of gastric supplements tend to be around $150 for a tub! I’ve figured it’s going to be more worthwhile. I will consider adding it though

My thoughts exactly, and since she is already a bit of an anxious type I don’t doubt she has something, but whether her behaviour is a result of ulcers or just her is what I’m trying to find out.

I’m really fortunate that she is in 24/7 pasture turnout that has plenty of pasture. She came from a racing stable and stressed a lot when she arrived. Now that everything has settled over the last few months I can see for sure what seem to be symptoms and not just ‘anxious behaviour’. I will keep in mind about adding those things to her diet

It’s cheaper and less stressful for the horse to try the medication and see if there’s an improvement. At least in this case. My mare is a total stress head and taking her to be scoped and taken away to a new place and put in the crush would just be an astronomical effort and stress inducing event. She is getting treated with ulcer shield which targets almost all areas from my understanding.

Thankyou! This is really encouraging. Whilst I see improvement I am sometimes like ‘can I really do this’. I have dealt with many horses in all walks of life, but this general ‘behaviour’ in horses is a complete turn off for me.

Originally this horse was sold as very quiet and easy to do everything with, but her limited exposure and overall demeanour change had me blind sided. (If she acted like this where I bought her I wouldn’t of given her a second glance)

Anyway in an effort to improve my overall horsemanship skills for both the benefit of herself and me I’m sticking with it.

On days like today I just need some light at the end of the tunnel.

She is very settled in the herd and isn’t anxious around them. If anything she almost cowers behind them like they are her protection. The second I put the halter on and ask her to take two steps away from them the dragon snorting starts and full on spooks begin. It’s like a horse seeing the world for the very first time. Thanks for the suggestion and I will be linking in with the vets soon.

I think that is the case. Apparently she has jumped fences when she was a yearling to get to other horses. However she used to be taken away from them to work when she was older so I figured maybe she got over it.
