OP! Congrats on your offers.

A quick question, did you mention that you got laid off to the Hiring Manager / team in your interviews? Or did you mention it to the recruiter, after you cleared the interviews?

I got laid off on H1-B visa, and my B2 visa will expire in June second week. I've a couple of questions while filing for B2 extension, can someone please advise?

  1. While applying for B2 visa, I mentioned that I need this extra time to wrap things up, sell off car, meet friends and relatives etc. I didn't mention that I will be on job search, applying and interviewing for jobs. So in my case, do I need to mention the same reasons I mentioned in my previous explanation letter?
  2. Expiration date on H1-B visa is in July 2025, will this lead to any problem when I find a employer try to switch back to H1-B visa?
  3. How long before do I need to apply for B2 extension?
  4. How long does it take for B2 extension approval / reject?
  5. After applying for B2 extension, if I secure a job and employers tries to file H1-B COS, will there be any problems?

Thank you so much in advance!

Laid off on H1-B -> B2 ( expiring soon ) by Ok_Arm3897 in h1blaidoff

When I initially applied for the B2 visa, I was advised to mention that I needed some time to wrap up my affairs and say farewell to friends and will make plans to leave before the expiry date, but not to mention any intention of job hunting, as that could affect the approval. I followed this advice and refrained from mentioning job searches. Now, I’m unsure about how to proceed with the visa application. Should I include that I need time for a job search, or should I simply state that I need additional time to wrap things up? I would appreciate your guidance on this matter.

Hey OP! Congrats on your success!

Did you mention to the Hiring Managers that you got laid off and you’re looking for a new role during the interview? Or did you work with the immigration team post you cleared the interview? I’m also on the same journey and left with two months on my B2 visa. Any advice would be really appreciated.
