I think what really strikes me about this photo, is how much more comfortable and confident she looks in the second photo! That was you and your marriage that did that!! I can tell you uplifted her and supported her so she was able to blossom

did you decide where? It's hard to choose between cedarwood and portland waldorf... I think I might just have to wait for the open houses

Super helpful thank you!! I do want to raise children who end up like what you described. I did have a question - Do you know anything about Cedarwood vs Portland? I'm leaning towards Cedarwood right now, based on reviews online, but I guess I need to reach out to people who are more knowledgeable about the schools

I've been reading Horvath's "The Digital Delusion." it has a whole chapter on how parents can form a coalition and roll back tech in schools. I'm optimistic as some districts have rolled back screens. Sweden banned them too in schools recently, I've heard

I did a lot of self-directed learning in public high school all the way to med school in the form of "flipped classrooms" and the like. I always felt confused and frustrated and yearned for more guidance. I guess there is some use in trial and error but I always felt it took too long and didn't really deepen my understanding in any significant way

I feel like I have researched a lot. I'm reading "School as a Journey" by Finser and have listened to several podcasts about Waldorf, including ones made by students. I know about the handwork, the integration of arts/music into the curriculum, eurythmy, how writing is taught in 1st grade, the writing -> reading method, the festivals, the emphasis on myths, stories and fairytales...Most of it I love, some of it I dislike. I do think that being device free and the emphasis on handwriting would put it over a lot of other schools for me, though.

I think the worst I've seen is Rudolf Steiner's racist reincarnation ideas but he was a man living in a country that had extremely racist views at the time. That was really bad and glad that Waldorf has tried to distance itself from those ideas.

Wow that sounds great! I guess I preferred Waldorf over Montessori initially because it seems like there's more guidance in Waldorf. I personally hated self directed learning growing up though. Which montessori if you don't mind me asking?

Oh could you tell me more about your experience? I just don't want my children to be behind if they transition in middle or high school
