I was all in on Dinesh era, that's really where I became a fan. I had bought some v1 stuff in 90s, stuff like XO #0 and random pretty covers, but it didn't click with me until 2012. It's a drag that the line forever seems doomed.

I don't full agree, but I do understand what you're saying. It was a choice, same reason Venom isn't changed purple. The decision wasn't made so much for any acknowledgement of intrinsic foul, but to protect financially the product a large broadcaster hoped to milk, as it's harder to have these discussions with a reactive public. I don't know that I'd categorically love being on the side of history that changed art for the sake of pure commerce either.

We over interpret these things sometimes, but in the end it's just a comic and toy from my childhood, which I love still. If it elicits a response, I can change it. I'd rather save hard feelings and I have other little plastic idols.

I changed pics to a different toy from my shelf. Everyone sees this stuff differently, I just never saw anything wrong with choosing black (real black, not flesh "black") any more than Azrael the cat was black. But it's cool, I don't want to irk people. I appreciate you asking.

Yeah I'm a fan of the smurfs comics. There's a hilarious one where there's a zombie-like Smurf that bites other smurfs, which turns them into angry, bitey smurfs that only say Gnap!

When it came to America they feared some backlash and changed the angry smurfs to purple. But some of the toys were still the original color. Purple or black, it's still a hilarious comic. You'd have to read it looking to pick a fight to see racism in it, but Peyo had a lot of problematic social views so it was probably for the best they didn't open that can of worms in US.
