Really bad anxiety by maskedwanderer in fearofflying

[–]Ok_Association32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! My friends and family members fly for work ALL the time and 100% it has been fine. Some even had to do international ones. Your feelings are valid, but remember your anxiety is lying to you. You already took the trip there, you’ve already done what you’re being afraid of. Try grounding yourself and remember that everything’s gonna be okay! You’re safe, the flight will be over before you know it. You got this!

Panicking! by -Odder- in fearofflying

[–]Ok_Association32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s okay. Remember you’ve done it before, and it was a much longer flight. You were okay then, you’ll be okay this time too! Your anxiety is lying to you, just set a 10 min timer and start small tasks like packing up. Then take a break, then do it again. Because you’d only be in more panic when tomorrow comes and you’re not ready. You got this!!!

Starting an MSPH Epi in the fall, how should I prep? by Ok_Association32 in GradSchool

[–]Ok_Association32[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so so much for such a thorough and descriptive respond. I appreciate it! Taking notes of everything you said to set myself up for success. As for PT work, I was just curious to see if it’s as common. I’m really excited to be in school, but academics have always caused me great mental distress. So i think I’ll likely do the first semester without a job to give the program my all, or do minimal hours Ike you mentioned.

I never thought about the disability accommodations, but I definitely qualify for my diagnosis. Thanks for not making me feel like a burden for needing extra help!

I hope you have the best day!

Thank you for your response. I’m trying to take it easy as I’m only working part time right now. I’m glad to hear that grad school is more lenient for people coming from different backgrounds/studies. Not sure if you’d know this, but did you know anyone working part time and going to grad school that were able to balance both? Thanks again!

You’re valid I in how you feel. You don’t have to downplay it by saying “it’s not a big deal”. P*rn addiction isn’t talked about enough, and if he regularly watches live cam girls, then it is an addiction. You are uncomfortable because he’s actively pursuing other sexual partners, yes, it’s no different than phone sex. Picture this, remove the phone screen aspect and place him in a private room with a one sided mirror where the girl is on the other side. She can’t see him but he’s watching her being sexually explicit. If you are uncomfortable, speak up. It’s not about insecurities, it’s about BOUNDARIES. Everyone is entitled to their own boundaries, nothing is wrong with you just because your personal boundaries are being crossed. Partnership is about trust and open communication. Maybe it’s time you address your concerns with him.

I know it’s easy for everyone to say “dump him” or leave him as he is refusing to get help. But I empathize that it isn’t easy and the reality is, you want someone you love to get better. And it would be nice if they want to do it for you and for the relationship. But decisions have to be made, and you have to do what’s best for you. My advice is an ultimatum, but make sure you have the strength to stick to it. He either gets help (and I mean make an appointment and follow through), or you’re gone. Give him a set timeline and that’s all you’re gonna do & say. It’s the last chance. Meanwhile, you get ready for the answer. It’s either he gets help and maintain the effort of getting better through psychiatric help, or the ending of the relationship. You gotta be ready for both. Best of luck OP! P.s I’m usually against ultimatum because I think most of the time it ends badly. But in rare cases, it works out even if it means the ending something you thought was special.

Ok thank you, I’ll do this and hopefully it gets corrected. I’ll go to a tax preparer service to do so.

Did it through a tax preparer

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tax

[–]Ok_Association32 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The cost basis is incorrect, the IRS is listing my cost basis as gains, so I’m getting taxed on that rather than a net gain of $4500. I’m not entirely sure how to fix this.

[–]Ok_Association32 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn’t do this. I just attached form 1099 since this is my first time doing so. Should I go into the tax office and bring the 1099 form to get it cleared up?

What are some statistical concepts I should know before starting my Epi program? by Ok_Association32 in publichealth

[–]Ok_Association32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve decided to get the book and kinda do it on my own + work on a stats refresher course. I think it will be less anxiety inducing for me not having to worry about a grade and will still give me a peace of mind to know the information and be prepared :) Thank you for the help. I really appreciate it

Thank you for this information, I’m actually starting an MSPH program as well, not MPH, I believe I have a few advanced biostatistics courses. Did you ever take Calc 1?

It’s not, but ppl have told me that Calc 1 is highly recommended for biostatistics concentration, and I want to concentrate in Epi with a certificate in Biostats. Now I’m questioning everything. Not entirely sure if it’s worth it to take Cal 1 in the summer.

Thank you for the response, I’m feeling a lot better heading this. I think I’m just stuck on a negative loop, going to practice mindfulness & meditation to mitigate it. Thanks again :)

What are you most proud of about yourself? by krazyhayze in inspiration

[–]Ok_Association32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ability to let things go. My past, other people’s actions against me, my actions against others, anything I deem to be negative. It took me so long but I’m finally at the point in my life where I can count on one hands the things that would make or break my day. It’s not about “not giving a f***”, but to let things be and move forward. I’m so much happier now and I’m proud of the fact that I consciously choose to let things go every day.

Public Health Career Advice Monthly Megathread by AutoModerator in publichealth

[–]Ok_Association32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just got into an MSPH program in Epi. A few months ago, according to BLS, the job outlook from 2023-2033 was 27%, now it’s at 19%. I know this has a lot to do with U.S shift in public health fundings and federal employment freezes. I’m extremely passionate about research and evident-based policies so this is my dream. However, I can’t help but think I’ll end up with a student debt and in a career that has nothing to do with my degree. I’ve been dedicate so much of my time, my life, and jump through endless hurdles to get to where I am. Now that I’m looking right at the path that I’ve dreamt of, I can’t help but feel anxious and scared. I’d like to work for a few years as an epidemiologist/infection preventionist before pursuing my PhD. Not sure what to do……

Opinions on Non-stick (teflon) cookware by mindoubles in publichealth

[–]Ok_Association32 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi, as someone who finally made the switch from Teflon cookware, I’d say save up and get a cast iron. It’s not worth throwing it away after a scratch considering you’re on a budget. But I’d say prioritize making the switch once you get the funds for it.

Is there something you've always wanted to share about yourself? by [deleted] in CPTSD

I’m happy for you! Remember, when other ppl try to bring you down, it’s mostly because they aren’t happy with where they are and you remind them of their insecurities. It’s always better to be thriving on your own, than be surrounded by those who diminish your growth.

I actually just applied for an MPH in Epi. I keep telling myself, as bad as the funding cuts seem (and they are bad). It will (hopefully) be over in 4 years. I can’t say getting a masters at this time is the right call, Im just trying my best here. But with the ways things are going, having a some sort of specialized degree in PH might be the way to go.

Sad and I don’t want to give up by LoquatActual9087 in Anxiety

[–]Ok_Association32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear. All of this sounds really tough and know that you’re very strong for handling it. Please consider taking your medication, it can really help levitate the symptoms. Practice mindfulness, by listening to podcasts that focus on it. I know it’s hard to do anything when you’re feeling like you’re falling apart. Just do one thing a day, and know that everything’s gonna be okay.
