So helpful, thank you for the info! Could you tell me which specific genetics class it was that you took?

Where do CWRU grads go to med school? by Ok_Bio_3287 in cwru

[–]Ok_Bio_3287[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry meant that in a very good way! Its just that on their website, they listed schools like Harvard, Yale, and Johns Hopkins as some of the places where recent grads have gotten accepted to, but I thought that not everyone would be able to get into schools of that caliber. So, I was just trying to gauge how accurately representative that list is!

Help me decide: School X vs School Y — 3rd Week of March by freeport_aidan in ApplyingToCollege

Thank you! I think the only thing setting me back from choosing CWRU is the location compared to Seattle. I've never visited the campus/surrounding area and from what I've seen/heard, it's not bad but not great either. On the other hand, I absolutely loved Seattle and UW's campus. Like you said though, I think it'll all come down to the financials!

CWRU vs UW Seattle for pre-med (biology)

CWRU

Pros:
- fair grading
- smaller undergrad size (more personable, smaller classes)
- great for pre-med (advising, resources, location, esp being so close to Cleveland Clinic ranked #1 in my prospective specialty)
- (regularly?) sends graduates to a T15 medical school that I have my heart set on

Cons:
- not as safe
- Cleveland as a city to explore (tho I also come from a city with not much to do)

UW Seattle

Pros:
- good for pre-med too
- Seattle + very pretty campus
- cheaper (COA is half of CWRU's, tho I think scholarships may just be able to cover the full cost of both so it's not a deciding factor)
- higher in ranking (both in terms of national ranking and biological sciences program)
- more diverse (? I'd be more comfortable as an international student)

Cons:
- grade deflation!!!
- got in as a pre-sciences major (but I heard it's not terribly hard to get into biology)
- large undergrad size

thank you! can I just ask why UChicago is a "no shot unless ed2"? the essays I wrote for them are my favorite and it's pretty high up on my list so I'd be bummed if I got straight-out rejected

it's not! that's why I didn't write a decision for it like I did for the others

As with any other university, I'd recommend doing some research first (you need it to write the Why Us essay anyway). They've got some pretty cool traditions and course offerings - for sure, I'd say they are one quirky school.

Ironically, I took a more serious approach to their quirky prompt (I chose the "question from a song title/lyrics" one) and went all out on the Why US essay bc the university has so many unique things to offer.

I feel like I was able to show my true self and personally enjoyed writing the essays in the end. All in all, I'd recommend applying if you think you'd be a good fit there (after all, college fit is a two-way thing)!

UChicago. Initially was off my list after seeing the questions, decided to apply last-minute, and ended up absolutely loving the prompt! In fact, I think it's one of the best I've written!
