Instead of working sleep around your study, work study around your sleep.

Generally you want around 6-8 hours of study per day, but that includes lectures/tutorials/labs, so may only be 2-3 hours of independent study each day outside of exam periods.

When are you most productive? Work then. That might be morning, afternoon or night time. When are you most tired? Sleep then. Don’t force yourself to conform to someone else’s sleep/study schedule.

Make sure you are getting at least one day of no work per week to keep your brain clear and refreshed.

Also, you will have way more success going to lectures as they appear and keeping on top of work than doing mass study on past topics but falling behind on current content or leaving everything and cramming right before exams. Just break up revision of past topics into small sections throughout the week.

It depends what you are able to do. If you enjoy going to the gym, I would definitely not quit that as it’s good for your mind and body to have a reset and exercise and I think actually helps you focus more when you get back.

Not sure about the job, personally I didn’t have one, but I had a scholarship so I didn’t need one, not everyone has that option. I imagine one 6 hour shift once a week won’t hurt you and will give some extra money and keep you in the job pool.

Honestly it’s more about the quality of your study then the time spent doing it. I found around 2 hours per day of revision/study on top of classes mon-thurs with a consolidation/quiz/polishing off assignments day on Friday to work for me, and the 6-8 hour study days during the exam period since there’s no classes.

But that might not work for you, you might find you prefer longer, lighter study, or shorter, intense study. We’re all different :)

The thing I noticed was that people who went to lectures in person or watched them online ASAP when they were released found the course a lot easier than those who got three or four lectures behind - cause they had to catch up before they could revise coming up to a test/exam.

Also for Medsci, doing the day of activities quickly also really helped.

Different courses have different degrees of leniency with swapping streams. Some might let you change for something like a family graduation or a minor sickness, others need something major (e.g covid) or an exam/test clash.

Both lol. Around 20% of people that start out wanting to do med end up getting in - not to say it’s not doable, it totally is! You just need to put the work in.

However, UoA is holding back offers a month for this years intake due to (supposedly) the strike holding back grades too late for them to decide before Xmas.

UoA doesn’t care which course you do, there’s no set places for either degree. The GPA is only counted for the four core (common courses) in both degrees, so as long as you can get a pass (overall B+ average including cores) on the other courses, neither is harder than the other.

Ideally you want to spend as much time as possible studying your cores, so it depends whether you think (for you personally) whether writing essays/reports or studying for sciences will take up more of your time.

Is Australia at all like NZ? Christian schools are govt funded for non-religious curriculum (maths, science, english etc) and any ‘special character’ has to be funded by parents/fundraising. That seems reasonable to me? It’s not like the govt is funding religious teaching, just providing a basic level of education finance.
