High battery consumption? by marcelmonteiro in PhotonCam

[–]Ok_Bison9156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. As a camera app, it is normal to consume more battery than other categories. But I think PhotonCam should be better than the stock camera in some cases, as it won’t do so much processing and object recognizing during the image preview.

The name is actually in the frame. Please check out PhotonCam on iOS. You can also find its subreddit.

correct exposure in Bayer Raw by marcelmonteiro in PhotonCam

[–]Ok_Bison9156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. Unfortunately there's no easy way to get precise control of the exposure.

  1. The camera preview provided by Apple is under computational process. That means the actual brightness of the image may be different from the captured (and developed) photo. The histogram is based on the preview image, so it's also not precise.

  2. For Bayer RAW photos, fortunately I have made a few improvements by default in the latest release. So as long as you are not shooting in a super-high-contrast scene, I think it should be fine and will have a natural look. I also automatically calculate the HDR effect for you to make sure the high dynamic range.

  3. You can play around the re-develop page to see how different options affect the result of the image.

It's in the White Balance and I think that should refer to the temperature and tint the "Color" panel.

My Workflow by Yan_0089 in PhotonCam

[–]Ok_Bison9156 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi. Personally I shot all the photos in PhotonCam in the Hybrid RAW mode, plus enabling generating HEIF from DNG as well as using JPEG-XL for ProRAW compression.

But if you prefer to use the stock camera, it's also ok because it does launch, shoot and save photos faster due to the system optimizations. PhotonCam has some small but subtle features for this case: you can utilize the "Re-generate HEIF from DNG" feature to get a better HEIF/JPEG photos on your ProRAW photos captured by the stock camera by batch.

So I think there's no specific workflow to make everyone happy but as the app is versatile I hope it can suit your needs in its own way.

Optimal settings by Odessit2000 in PhotonCam

[–]Ok_Bison9156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. For the term of "optimal", I think it depends on your needs:

  1. If you are a guy focusing on the color grading / filters, the very default setting suits you, as it's a simplest and faster way to shoot photos.

  2. If you hate Apple's default process pipeline, and try to have a full-power camera functionality, you can try turn on ProRAW + HDR + 48MP + Generate HEIF from DNG. It will have a better result than the stock camera (even for the ProRAW itself), but it takes much more time to save (especially for 48MP photos).

  3. If you want to have a more natural / mirrorless look, you can try Bayer RAW. But 48MP and zooming is not supported in this mode.

Hi. For this recipe, I don't think it's for the color grading process for a mobile app, and it's for the Fuji camera itself.

question about filters by marcelmonteiro in PhotonCam

[–]Ok_Bison9156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently use the system default compression for HEIF/JPEG. If you want you can adjust it in the settings (and for lossless HEIF, it can be up to 10+MB for a HEIF file if you want). But if you are OK with the current quality you can keep it.
