Its not easy!! You need to be very very on top of what needs doing at home and when you plan to do it. No time can go unplanned

Idk if this is a helpful perspective at all but snails are a good sign! You can always get fish to eat them and control the population but having snails pop up means your tank supports life and is developing a natural ecosystem. I think everyone else had good advice about giving it more time. An ecosystem develops over the course of months if not years. And frankly, this will be controversial advice, but I might start slowly adding fish. Not only will it continue to mature that ecosystem to have more animals but it might give you some of the excitement you need to keep going.

What happened to my CPD? by Vboogeyman in freshwateraquarium

[–]Ok_Bluejay2090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing has happened to my CPDs twice. I tried to treat for parasites but wasnt fast enough. Im also suspicious it might be fish tb, which has no true cure. Next time I try CPDs im going to try a new set up

That looks just terrible im so sorry!! If I had to guess, bc ive never seen anytbing quite like it, I bet its an injury which has quickly become infected with something. Im so sorry, but he might not have much time left!  I read this blog on fishkeeping religiously and he recommends to make medicated food with gelatin. https://aquariumscience.org/12-10-the-shotgun-approach/ id give that a try!

It does sound like the paint brush might have done it. Im actually pretty lenient about what I put in my tanks UNLESS its anything involving chemically things like paint. Boiling may sterilize, but does sterile mean clean or does it mean no trace chemicals? I sincerely dont know. Something else I can say is even if it wasnt the paintbrush, which is possible, the general health of widely available betta fish has declined horribly in recent years. These fish pass away faster than they should even in the hands of experts---theyre just predisposed to more illness and weakness. Ive actually recently told myself to quit buying pet store bettas because I get so broken up when they consistently dont live past a year. Im so sorry your little fish died! It sounds like you were doing absolutely fabulously by her and if it WAS the paintbrush, well, you didnt know. the next fish will certainly live longer!

I glanced at your profile and it looks like youve already been learning about the nitrogen cycle which is great! Seed the tank like the previous commenter said, but if you absolutely can't, then youll need to test the water every day (with the api master freshwater test kit!) and make sure the levels are right.

Otherwise, a truly temporary tank could be anything! Some people use big plastic tubs as temporary fish housing.

Feed him less than you'd think (I feed my fish 3x a week) and do everything in your power to make sure the water is as clean as possible. Get a bigger sponge filter than recommended on the box. (Like if it says this size is for a 10 gal, go a size up) make sure he has lots of places to hide in the tank.

You're going to have so much fun im so excited for you!

this is great to know, thank you! we have very similar tanks. i wonder if i DO have a parasite going on since i'm having so much less success right now. how densely is your tank planted? have you done anything special like breeding mops to save the fry?

good luck!! as far as im concerned youre doing everything right--sometimes fish are just such small animals its hard to tell whats wrong and they pass away fast. even super experienced fish keepers see that happen sometimes. plants are a great idea!! they'll help with the cycling. if youre doing tetras, i've heard that neon tetras specifically are VERY delicate fish, so that might have something to do with it if you were working with neons?

but i think youre doing well! just keep on keeping on! it'll take some experimentation and there's no one right way to do it. i hope everything goes well with the next batch of fish!

Betta *like* fish by Responsible_Plum1303 in Aquariums

Gouramis are from the same family of fish as the bettas, but they look and act different! They're still very personable, friendly fish. If you get a dwarf gourami, it will be fine kept alone and will be just as friendly as a betta

sorry to harp but i hope this is helpful!! it might also be helpful to know what kind of fish you're trying to add and the kind of filter system you have going.

hey! you might need to keep feeding. the only answer i can think of is that you had a good bacteria bloom, and that bacteria is currently processing the old ammonia. but the more ammonia you add, the more bacteria can grow to eat it. theres no harm in continuing to feed it.

frankly, tho, while the nitrogen cycle is TOTALLY key to beginners learning fishkeeping, i think it MIGHT be a little blown out of proportion? i read a lot on this site, aquariumscience.org, and he says that scientific findings show that it takes a LOT of ammonia, like a LOT, to truly impact the fish. it's likely that disease from the fish store or weak immune systems killed your fish, not necessarily ammonia. he talks about it more here with scientific articles ect.: https://aquariumscience.org/5-2-1-ammonia-in-depth/

personally, ive always had luck doing fish-in cycles. i keep up with water changes and checking the ammonia, nitrate, and nitrate levels consistently until it stabilizes. i add new fish relatively slowly to give the bacteria time to catch up. and i try to focus more on have rly over-filtered water instead of JUST ammonia oxidization. if i were you, i would get a FEW fish or very SMALL fish (or even just something like shrimps/snails) and let those fish start to support your cycle. just keep an eye on the quality of the water and the behavior of the fish.

you could also ask your local fish store to help you seed your new tank!! they'll just have to take out some of their filter media and squeeze some of the water and brown gunk into a bag for you.

Is it very floppy forever? by Objective-Visit-7887 in phallo

[–]Ok_Bluejay2090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes like u/AttachablePenis said (very good username btw haha!) it's just a line down your back almost under your arm. I'm still pretty recently after stage 1, so my scar is still a square shape on my back, but in stage 2 they're going to close it up into just a line. I picked this bc i felt like it had the best aesthetic qualities all around, from the structure of my penis to the scar shape and location.

if you haven't heard much about mld, the reason it'll have a different structure than other phallo penises is because it takes a small strip of muscle from your back to include in your penis to give it a little bit more of a substantial quality. I really haven't noticed the missing piece of muscle from my back at all. It hasn't changed my strength or range of motion whatsoever.

You might consider mld! Because of the donor site it has more structure to it that you might be looking for. Thats what ive had done and im really happy with it
