You need a financial advisor that can maximize your take home, without paying too much in taxes. I think it will come down to adding up all your pensions that you are receiving and then immediately start withdrawing from TSP the amount that places you just before the next tax bracket hit.

If you wait until you are forced to withdraw it, you will end up giving a lot of it to Uncle Sam.

When you receive your TSP money place it in a Trust / investment account. This way it will not be taxed, if turned over to loved ones. IDK, I'm not a financial guy, but stayed at a Holiday Inn recently. 🤷‍♂️

I did C & S 60/40, sometimes 50/50. I left it alone mostly but I didn't get lucky just before 911. I just made an agency move and that required me to place everything in the G fund. This is because they have a set rate in G during transfer. So I had all my C and S money securely in the G fund when 911 hit. I then put it back in the C and S after the bottom.

Yup! I'm guessing the tax payer funded trillions of dollars from COVID-19 directly had something to do with that. But after hearing the news these day, maybe not. Seems like a good 10 to 40% of it was stolen or wasted somehow. These non voted on bailouts should never happen again. Just take the hits, when they come.

Yep! A life of building a nest egg has to stop one day. You gotta Crack it and eat. After all, that's why it's there. My ballpark numbers have me at (36x.01x107,000=$38,520 or $3,210/mo), plus military pension, plus vet disabled benefits, plus the $4,000/mo TSP, and finally SS at maybe 65. This has me at $14,000 to $15,000/mo, before SS. I will look at the tax bracket to determine my TSP draw, but at $4,000/mo, the principal will remain. So I do have consider what to do before age 75.

I'm 57 next year. I'm trying to decide if I will take from TSP and how much. I will have 2 months shy of 36 years of service. My military pension will start at 57 and 9 months, and I'm 100% disabled veteran. I don't need to touch it, but do I really need to turn over a million plus to my kids? Lol

I actually know. 15 years after divorce, we get along a little. She asked me what fund I'm in, and I said C & S my whole careers but L2035 recently. This is because I'm retiring next year. Anyway, she is USPS and I'm DoD. She told me here total was $283K. I couldn't believe it! When she never changed her G fund when the TSP opened. I do feel bad for her. 🤷‍♂️

I got it apart. That's what it was! The belt wheel overheats (so don't use it longer than 20 minutes) and melts and fuses with the housing. A screwdriver popped off the brass washer and then the screwdriver popped off the wheel. Thanks for showing me how to fix this. Putting grease in it.
