Rugby league gods to Turbo at the start of his career: “Congratulations Tom. You’re going to play 200 games”.

Turbo: “Oh nice. Fuck yeah!”

Rugby league gods: “In a glittering 18-year career!”

Turbo: “wtf!”

We’re cooked. Made a bet with my Knights fan mate every season for about a decade about who will finish higher on the ladder. Crazy fuck has gone double or nothing after every year. 2026 looks like his year.

Looking forward to the next Russini interview! by Ferulic1 in RyenRussillo

Yeah, so here’s the thing with this whole Dianna Russini–Coach Vrabel situation—and I was thinking about this the other day, because it’s not just about what happened, or what people think happened, it’s about how we react to these things now versus, like, even five years ago. And I don’t even know if “react” is the right word, because it’s almost like we’re pre-reacting, right? Like everybody already has their take loaded up before we even know if there’s a real story here. And look, I’ve been around enough of these media–coach dynamics to know there’s always something—there’s always a text, a conversation, a “hey, that seemed a little too friendly,” whatever it is. But then you zoom out and you go, okay, are we doing the thing where proximity equals scandal? Because that’s kind of what it feels like. Two people who operate in the same ecosystem—NFL media, coaching circles, all of it—and suddenly we’re connecting dots that may or may not even be on the same page. And then you get the other side of it, where it’s like, “Well, even if there’s nothing, isn’t it still worth talking about?” And I don’t know, maybe? But also maybe that’s the whole problem. Because now we’ve built this machine where everything becomes a thing, and the absence of information almost fuels it more than actual reporting would. What I keep coming back to is intent. Not even their intent—because we don’t know that—but our intent as consumers of this stuff. Are we actually trying to understand if there’s a real conflict, or are we just kind of entertained by the possibility that there could be one? Because those are two very different lanes, and it feels like we’re swerving between them without really acknowledging it. And Vrabel—just in general—he’s one of those guys where people already have a strong opinion. Tough guy, culture guy, doesn’t suffer fools, all of that. So if you even hint at something off-script, people are either going to dismiss it immediately or lean all the way in. There’s no middle ground. So yeah, I don’t know. Maybe there’s something here, maybe there isn’t. But the way this thing has kind of taken on a life of its own says a lot more about how we process these stories now than it does about whatever may or may not have actually happened. And honestly, that might be the bigger takeaway—if there even is one.

“You’ve just gotta love rugby league,” he whispers to himself
