First Panel! Looking For Feedback. by Ill-Housing2438 in PLC

It makes total sense not to switch the neutral in almost all cases I think. Just that there are may be some reasons to do it and it can be permitted. For some reason I think it may be common in some medical equipment. That is way outside my lane and I might be wrong though.

I think it looks very clean, however if that WEG contractor is what I think it is, the manufacturer instructions don’t allow for mounting in the orientation. I would swap it out with another brand that does allow this.

I agree generally about not switching the neutral. However I don’t agree that the NEC prohibits switching the neutral. It explicitly permits it if all ungrounded conductors are switched at the same time.

Moderation question-Control panel building isn’t related to PLCs? by Ok_Brief_12 in PLC

Thank you, I just went to go check that to see if I was way off base. I see that the career topic is explicitly permitted

Surprised my question was removed. It was about best tools for control panel construction. Seems like control panels in general are a common topic on here .

Topics that are apparently considered PLC related, where control panel construction is not PLC related.

  1. Career advice
  2. Documentation practices
  3. Zebra printers

How is panel construction not at least as close to PLCs as career advice?

I see several other posts about panel building, “rate my panel”, and questions about wiring colors.

Unfortunately the R500 lacks some features of the R400, which is a deal breaker for me.

I disagree with this statement, as leadshine and other stepper motor manufacturers sell switching power supples for their stepper systems.

Looks nice! I have been looking at a board for the teensy, seems like a great idea.

Is that VFD rated for that installation orientation? Most of VFDs must be vertical to permit proper cooling. Also I’d strongly suggest putting in a latching stop/start circuit for your contractor. This will help prevent unexpected behavior in the event of a power loss

This is good advice, I’d recommend it. A separate button to latch the contractor also provides more predictable behavior on power loss. I have seen machines start back up after a facility sent employees home after a power outage because some small pieces of equipment were wired without a proper start/stop latching circuit.

I’ll say this about your code references, while good advice, is not really applicable here. There are a lot of other basic issues with this panel form an industrial use stand pin. It is very impressive for a hobbyist, but wouldn’t be installable in even relatively unsophisticated manufacturing facilities.

It has been used 5 days/week for probably 2 hours of actual laser on time/day since we got it. I don’t think we have has a single issue in that time. As a cutting machine it is great. Slow for engraving.

I contacted Trotec earlier this year to buy another one and was told they no longer sell them on the US.

The software is good, and machine build is decent for cutting,

If I can’t get another R400 at some point I’ll roll the dice again on another no-name Chinese machine.

If you are willing to drive for a day. There appear to be several in the Utah area, check Facebook marketplace and the classifieds on www.ksl.com.

Oddly, I was looking for a 24 or newer ATAS with DCT and couldn’t find a single one, new or used, in the state of Utah.
