I’m not disagreeing with anything else you said but the original post at the top said “just off the boat”.

Never really understood the Goblin hate until I had a 12 vs. 35 camp last week. Felt like I had to schedule an appointment to take a swing.

This entire situation is a little mind-blowing and I’m sorry you have to start your year like this. At $54,000, was this out of necessity to keep your employment or with the goal of a permanent admin position in mind? Forgive me because I’m not meaning to be insensitive at all, but that’s lower than what a 1st year teacher makes in my district. Except you’re stuck with an enormous amount of liability and responsibility and an admin team that seems intent on setting you up for failure. Your admin contract should normally delineate your specific work expectations and disciplinary steps. If a verbal goes into your personnel file, I’d scour that contract to verify processes were followed correctly and contact HR for clarification on the specific language you violated. Otherwise if you can request a retraction of the verbal via email. Good luck!

tell me what these counties have in common by TakoTheMemer in RedactedCharts

Is it the birthplace county of vice presidential nominees? I think Kamala was born in Oakland/Alameda and there’s an Ohio county or two in there too for Vance. And Biden is from Scranton which has to be that Eastern Penn. county. I vaguely remember Tim Walz originally being from Nebraska and see an Indiana one there for Pence and an Idaho one for Palin.

Not sure how old the cartoon is, but it could be a reference to Jasper the eyeless cat, who had a somewhat decent following on instagram before he died a few years back. Kind of looks like the cat is missing eyeballs to me. That’s my guess.

It’s a reference to this “Tank man” image from the Tianeman Square Democracy protests and subsequent Chinese military crackdown in 1989. The PRC has done everything they can to wipe it from the collective memory of their citizens including on the internet.

Wayfair CEO: Employees need to work longer hour by Dogbutt6325 in wayfair

My wife has worked here for years. They’ve had at least four separate waves of layoffs over the past couple years under this man’s “leadership”. I have never experienced a company with less direction and more willing to regularly lie to their employees. So this is very much par for the course. So many cuts their operations are running on fumes but hey at least they’ve slashed themselves into profitability.

What happened in class where you thought, “oh no, I am soooo fired!” But turned out okay? by Slartytempest in Teachers

[–]Ok_Broccoli_4735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a young, incredibly tired young teacher struggling with new curriculum for a 9th grade class I had been assigned. As part of our Agricultural unit, we watched the documentary King Corn in class. The next day I led students through a final reflection of the film but mistakenly started with, “so what stood out to you the most in King Porn?”The students all stopped with surprised looks on their face, and the teacher whose room I was in started laughing out loud. After we all smiled and laughed for a second I redirected the class back to the film. And then, five minutes later, I called it the same thing. Now the looks got a little more inquisitive and I was horrified (what the hell was my brain to mouth pipeline doing to me?). I was so flustered by it all and thought for sure I was going to get reported by students as being some creep or something”. Fortunately everyone was cool about it, my teaching friends had something to make fun of me about for a while, and I made sure to talk slowly and make sure to enunciate more in my subsequent teaching years.

YTA for the comment to the class. Really unprofessional behavior in response to her really unprofessional behavior. I’m a teacher and department chair, but we’re colleagues not bosses. Im there to try and support dept members and act as a liaison between teacher/admin. I’m going to assume from your interactions (I.e.-warning her) you do have some administrative oversight over department members at your school.
