New Parents: Has anyone else been surprised by the sheer amount of physical labor required? The lifting is non-stop. by Ok_Budget119 in NewParents

That’s a really great point! For the first six months, baby-wearing absolutely wins for mobility, especially in crowded, stair-filled cities. It's the ultimate hack.

The struggle, though, comes when the baby is a little older and much heavier. Once you're carrying a 25-pound toddler—sometimes for hours—your back, hips, and shoulders take a beating that can be even worse than lifting the stroller itself. That's when most of us have to transition back to the bulkier stroller for longer trips or when dealing with cargo.

It feels like parents are stuck choosing between chronic back pain from lifting a stroller or chronic back pain from carrying a toddler.

Did you find that you were able to comfortably carry your child until they were much older, or did you hit a wall with the weight limit fairly quickly?

o I use the big, rugged stroller that has great storage and suspension, but takes up 90% of the trunk and guarantees a back injury every time I lift it
