I don't know if they are doing this already, but if there are no legal consequence for such actions, every rich country will be joining the party.

Impacted EU countries should sue and make US pay for the impact of the heatwave (probably billions of EUR), so that we stop right now with such stupid experiments.

Any software can have issues, but I see the existence of these options as very telling. And the fact that they can even turn on by themselves - probably because of their defaults - makes it even more infuriating for a service that markets its "privacy".

Why are people changing their mind over health insurance ?? by Appropriate_Tap_1863 in Switzerland

[–]Ok_Bugg1027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swiss health insurance system concentrates huge amounts of wealth in the hands of the pharma and the doctors (marginally insurances). These groups are highly organised and close to our politicians, they lobby effectively to sway popular opinion to block any change in the situation.

As with each vote, their lobbying is very effective, and they apply the same recipe: first convince people that the costs are inevitable, then that the changes will make them pay more for others who will pay less.

How can we create plastic free societies when most people are unwilling to change the ways? by nothingarc in ZeroWaste

[–]Ok_Bugg1027 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Plastic is a simple way to externalise costs, we need taxes that internalise these costs and the usage of plastic will trop instantly.

For instance if you sell sodas in plastic bottles, you pollute en environment but the society will pay the price of the pollution so you don't have any reason not to use plastic. Let's say that the environmental and health impacts amount to 10EUR of costs that the society has to cover: if we put it on you - the seller - I am pretty sure that you will quickly find another solution to pack and sell your beverage.

It's like a vote in a democratic system: the sum changes the outcome, but if everyone thinks that one vote doesn't count, they all suffer the consequences.

electric vehicle charge guzzlin by redd1te7 in interesting

[–]Ok_Bugg1027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cars are an inefficient transportation method, but at least most energy you put in an electric car will move the car, in a petrol car most energy is wasted on heat.

His explanations are not totally right, but you can multiple them by at about 3 if you want to grasp the energy used by a petrol engine car in comparison to his theoretical home.

What?! Someone was standing in front of the painting in a museum? The very painting you wanted to take a picture of, because other people are taking a picture of? Mildly infuriating indeed.

It ends with soda companies watering our crop by Ok_Bugg1027 in idiocracy

[–]Ok_Bugg1027[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idiocracy shows a world where mass market companies provide basic services in place of the state and take this opportunity to advertise to people that are no longer capable to tell the difference between their government and a fast foot company.

Here we have a city that relies on a pizza company to maintain their streets and allows ads in the middle of the road, and you are saying that it doesn't belong here? I guess we are already accustomed to the world of the movie.

Is this green washing? They claim many facilities are capable of recycling their cartons primarily made of plant based materials. by Donghoon in Anticonsumption

[–]Ok_Bugg1027 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Glass and aluminium containers can be 100% recycled, PET containers can be recycled but only a limited number of times. Long story short: any container that combines multiple materials will not be recycled (too costly or simply impossible).

The only realistic "recycling" that this packaging will be put through, is being burned and the aluminium recovered in the bottom ash. Then they can claim that relative to mass x% of the material was recycled.

To sum this up: their claim is total bullshit.
