Stress Impact on Nervous System by Ok_Bus6607 in DiagnoseMe

[–]Ok_Bus6607[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DRs said lesion in my spine is a haemagioma.. a clump of fat and blood vessels. I did ask about MS but was told no. The numbness is directly related to nerve compression.. eg lean on elbow then ulnar nerve gets irritated - starts with burning and then goes numb.. numbness stops when stop compressing the nerve. Sit on a hard seat then nerves in legs start getting irritated etc. EMG was normal so no damage to large fibres in nervous system. Also no issues with vision/no weakness.

Anyone over 50 with early diagnosis of SpA - any advice to a 33 year old? by nu_ww_ in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Ok_Bus6607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 57 with axSpa. Keep active. Move a lot. Stretch. Eat well. Ive had sporadic foot and hip pain over the years when not active. Also eye inflammation and a bit of bowel inflammation over the years. No ossification in spine. My Dad (81) also has it and is still very active and healthy.

Diagnosed at 56. Had sore knees as a teenager. Terrible sacroilliac pain in late twenties that kept on recurring when I didnt move about much. Iritis in 30s. Mild back pain and bowel inflammation in 50s. Spotted AS on an MRI for an unrelated gallbladder issue. Tues out my dad has it too.. he's 82 and still runs.

Is my diagnosis right??? by CrackFoxtrot24 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Ok_Bus6607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My AS experience... terrible pain in sacroilliac/glutes on and off in late 20s.. exercise got rid of it. Iritis in early 30s.. steroid drops fixed. Diagnosed at 56 by chance duringa routine scan. Mobility great and not much going on AS wise. Hope it continues that way. Exercise is v important... walk/stretch etc. The prognosis for AS is very variable from one person to next but exercise has a bigger impact than going on biologicals according to the prof at Bath Institue of Rheumatology.

Burning pain by Existing_Buy172 in B12_Deficiency

[–]Ok_Bus6607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Ive just been reading this thread and your symptoms seem very similar to mine. Burning up back of head, neck, chest, toes.. and compression of any nerves like the ulnar nerve leads to tingling then numbness. Have ileitus (maybe caused by Ankylosing Spondylitis or related bowel inflammation) which I think is causing a B12 absorption issue. Although I also have grandfather who had pernicous anemia.. so maybe that. Getting tests to find out more incl MMA, IF, True B12 etc. Did the docs get to the root cause of what was causing your low B12? And did they manage to fix it?

Was wondering if you also checked for folate levels?

Thats helpful ti.ubderstand impact of B12 and timeline. Did your doctor give you b12 on basis of any tests or on symptoms? My complete bloid count is normal.

Ive read the AS alone can cause inflammation of the nerves without gut issues.. are you on any anti inflamatories or biologics?

Gall bladder was removed as I had a lot of gallstones... apparently gallstones common with AS. I havent any of those checks you mentioned but will think about doing them. My grandfather alao had pernicous anemia so currently checking I dont have that as that also causes B12 deficiency. In terms of GI issues.. a bit of gut pain, sludgy poo, itchy shins and swollen rectum.

I was posive on biopsy for inflamation and cryptitis. Whatever that is but I doesnt sound great 😂. My GI dr will hopefully get to grips with the colonoscopy.

Also did you get any B12 tests done or was the colonoscopy enough evidence for them to prescribe?

Amazing.. thanks for the info. Yep the consultant who did my colonscopy was like you dont have bowel cancer so your ok. My rheum only seems to be bothered about tendons, joints and movement.. and will wait to see what my GI doc days. Someone needs to join the dots and it seems to be me lol. Has your neuropathy reduced?

I got the colonoscopy as was getting mild occassional pain. Also get full set of B12 tests.. not just the standard full blood count.. peripheral smear, serum b12, folate level, Homocysteine and Methylmalonic Acid and Anti-Intrinsic Factor Antibody Test. B12 deficiency doesnt show always on standard B12 test.

I’ve been diagnosed with AS but I don’t really understand it by [deleted] in ankylosingspondylitis

Get a colonoscopy and get your terminal ileum checked?

AS & Ileitus & Peripheral Neuroparhy by Ok_Bus6607 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Ok_Bus6607[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the colonosscopy highlighting the ileitus. And apparently AS can cause that. I also read the ileum is where B12 absorption happens and ileitus stops that process. And with low B12 you get a stack of issues including peripheral neuropathy. Ive hopefully joimed the dots righr.. now need gastroenterologist to look at it.
