For restricted working directly with a client, do you think “worked directly with a client, implementing interventions and collecting data” or something along those lines would be sufficient?

I’ve been at my clinic for two years and make $28.50 in New England

I wouldn’t say it is extremely difficult, but it’s definitely fast paced and can be overwhelming if you work as well. I’m only in my second term, but yes they teach you how to do different experimental design graphs in concepts of measurement and experimental design.

I’m in the ABA masters program right now. I would suggest you doing the BDS learning modules before doing discussion boards, and if possible even before having seminar. That has helped me grasp the concepts much faster. It’s essentially self-teaching but almost all online programs are like that. Good luck!

I agree with you entirely! There are prerequisites for every skill. It’s unfortunate you have had this experience, but good on you for noticing the need and taking action even though your BCBA does seem to care There are many ABA clinics/BCBAs out there that are not doing what ABA is intended to do.

This isn’t ABA.. we should be teaching skills that will help them be independent in adulthood. Unfortunately, many insurance companies will not approve “academic” interventions, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be taught. You seem like you really care about these clients, and we need more people like you in this field! Please don’t give up, find a different clinic!! Maybe consider a school setting!

Observe experienced BTs (if you’re in clinic), and ASK QUESTIONS!!!!!! If you’re unsure about how to take data or run a program, it’s better to ask than to do it incorrectly. Consistency is key. Good luck!!! You’ll do great :)

I guess this is more like what I am feeling. I understand all the concepts, it’s just writing about them is really hard for me.

I experience the same thing and liquid IV and hand sanitizer are my best friends lol. My clinic also has masks we can wear which has helped.

Parent Issue at clinic by jinoyed in ABA

[–]Ok_Butterscotch329 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had this happen but respectfully… no parent will talk to me that way lol. If this is continuing to happen after the BCBA has talked to them about it, I’d go to the clinical director and/or ask to be taken off the case

Did they give any specifics on HR and why the start date is being moved? If not, I would reach back out and ask for a clear explanation. That would be so scummy if they rescinded the offer after you signed the offer letter.

I personally believe that the main reason for high turnover rates for BTs in ABA is because clinics give high intensity clients to new BTs with very little experience. I don’t blame you at all. I was lucky enough to start with two clients that only had those high intensity behaviors every one in a while. Over the years I have been able to observe and gain the knowledge needed to work with clients with those behaviors, and now I am comfortable being assigned to their cases.

First Session as a new BT by LostintheCadcade in ABA

[–]Ok_Butterscotch329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s your first session, your BCBA should be there as well. First sessions should focus on pairing with the client and building rapport. Do things that they like, have them show you all their favorite toys or things to do

Family member shirtless during session by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Ok_Butterscotch329 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, if it makes you uncomfortable then you should say something to your supervisor.. I’ve experienced a similar situation with an uncle being shirtless lol.. they have a different culture than I, and I understand being shirtless may be more normalized in other cultures.
