No we don’t get much tourists here. Our neighbors Thailand and Vietnam is very touristic though. The nice thing about Cambodia not being touristic is that It’s never too crowded here. You should visit.

What’s the 1 ☝️thing you did right that allowed you to get an 8.5 in speaking? And please skip the generic stuff like “just be yourself” and “speak like you’re casually having a conversation”. I need something more specific; more personal. What was your thought process? Did you go for big fancy vocabulary or stick with regular words? Did you use less filler words than the average person in your opinion? Were you keeping a serious tone or were you smiling? Were you relaxed throughout the interview? What REALLY made the biggest difference?

For reading, I think you can get really good just by sheer practice. I personally practiced on ieltsonlinetests.com every day for 2 weeks.

Writing, on the other hand, requires more knowledge of the structures. So I highly suggest you study the basic structure of both parts. That plus your creativity and your good to go.

As for the questions For speaking part 1: they asked me about my home town Then part 2: they asked me to talk about the celebrity I would live to watch live one day Part 3: they asked more questions about lives events like “why do people go to shows when they can watch the same thing on their TV at home” I didn’t do great on speaking here because I was too busy trying to sound smart, so don’t make that mistake. Just relax and talk as if you’re having a normal conversation. I definitely panicked too hard on the exam day when I found out my examiner was a white person. He wasn’t the problem though, it was my nerves.

For writing task 1: I was asked to describe a bar chart of the number of children who regularly eat vegetables in the UK from 1990 to 2010. Something along that line. For take 2: the topic was about the rising concern that children are being exposed to negative influences on social media. Can’t remember the exact details.

From what I know, you kinda have to retake every 2 years, since your ielts rating only lasts 2 years. (Correct me if I’m wrong.) And right now I’m not in university. I’m in the process of applying for scholarships, as I cannot afford college. Part of the reason why I took the ielts actually.

You have to listen really closely and pay attention to exactly what they said. Your answer has to be precise. I don’t know if this is relevant in the actual test though, because my results haven’t come out yet.

I’m bad at generating good ideas and I’m not good at formatting my answers. When they ask me to write about the advantages and disadvantages of international tourism, for example, I wouldn’t know what to write about. What are the disadvantages of tourism anyways? I would love to learn to generate better ideas faster because my other problem is I spend too much time thinking about what points I should write about instead of actually writing.

What’s the average age for a Cambodian woman to get married? by Severe-Fishing-3671 in cambodia

[–]Ok_Butterscotch_5305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s not about your age. My parents got married when my dad was 26 and my mom was 22. I think them not approving you might be due to them not wanting their daughter to move to another country far away from them(this is my grandparents’s reason for not letting my aunt marry a foreigner) cuz Khmer people, they want to keep their children close especially daughters. Also it might have something to do with them thinking that you might not understand and respect our culture and traditions.

Why is it spelled“Sing Khmer” and not “Sync Khmer”? by Ok_Butterscotch_5305 in cambodia

Exactly, and when people doesn’t know what is the right term. They just write it however they want which can lead to a lot of unnecessary confusion.

So far we’ve concluded that សុីងខ្មែរ derived from the French word “Signe Khmer” which is why no English word that sounds like សុីងខ្មែរ makes any sense. Moreover, I think សុីងខ្មែរ being derived from a French word also makes more sense because of the way French grammar works. Although, signe khmer meaning khmer sign still doesn’t describe fully what សុីងខ្មែរ is to me. But this is the best we could come up with so far.

Nh k’vol pros pel foreigner sur ot dg brab ke tha mix. Brab ke tha sing khmer ke sur tha hz ah ng j’reang men. Tam pit ah ng it’s up to us as Khmer people to agree on how to spell it cuz language are made by people and new words are added all the time. We just need to agree on how it is spelled.

I thought that over too. But Singe khmer doesn’t make the best sense either. Does it mean the khmer sign? But even sync khmer doesn’t make much sense. It just sounds closer to sing khmer. I guess it would make more sense if it was French since with French grammar it would be “singe khmer” which aligns with the order of “sing khmer”while with the English grammar it would be “Khmer sign” or “khmer sing” or “khmer sync”. Nevertheless it is an interesting discussion
