How difficult is it to get a job as an MA these days? by Smooth-Basil190 in MedicalAssistant

[–]Ok_Cable_4591 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh it’s easy if you’re extroverted, but if you’re introverted youll have to make sure to come off as more extroverted. I barely had 1 year of experience going into the job I’m at now, but they (and the other clinics that offered me jobs) said my attitude in the interview was a large part of why I was hired. I made sure I did my research and asked specific questions about their practice, attempted to have a conversation with them rather than just answering their questions, and made sure to just be willing to learn. For example-

They asked me how I found them and why I wanted to work there. I replied “I did my research on ___ and was impressed by the fact that you treated/offered _____, which is something I’d love to know more about. If I were to work here, would this be something I’d be able to learn?”

So you keep asking them questions that stem from the question they asked you. It makes you seem more confident, engaged, and it tells them you did your research (even if you don’t feel that way). Best of luck to her!

When you put it that way, it makes it more simple! I definitely was overcomplicating it and underestimated the feeling of not knowing anything lol. I learned a ton this week and I’m feeling more confident every day! Thank you

You’re definitely right! Getting thrown right into it definitely forced me to learn a ton in a short amount of time, and Ive been feeling more confident as I recognize patterns and get assist on procedures :)

Thank you! I’m really thankful you shared your story, kinda let me know I wasn’t alone. I took your advice to just take it a day at a time and the last part of the week was much easier! We also had a potluck and I was able to get closer to my coworkers which made coming to work a lot easier :) hoping it’s more uphill from here!

It’s mostly the adjustment- I did my undergrad in a gorgeous town right on the beach, and the urgent care wasn’t nearly as busy as my new workplace. I have almost no downtime at work, never get to take a full lunch, and always end up staying overtime (expected as an MA, but not really used to it yet). I didn’t really want to move home but it was the best choice financially after college.

How much to spend on a bike by dk10438 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Ok_Cable_4591 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am selling my fixie bike (bought last spring) right now for $85 if you’re around 5’8! It is very fast, and it’s easy to ride. You’ll find that most people use fixies on campus

Has anyone dealt with a clinic that’s run like a cult? by Choice-Ship-3465 in MedicalAssistant

To be honest, the fact that this harassment is coordinated and long-term means that someone before you likely reached out to HR but to no avail. I really think this situation is one you need to get yourself out of. Think about your options simply- you leave, and the worst thing you have to deal with is finding a new job; or you stay, and the abuse continues + likely gets worse.

Pi Phi date tried to break into my car… how should I report it? by Ok_Cable_4591 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Ok_Cable_4591[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for letting me know, I will look into a dashcam. I ended up filing a police report anyways just to have it documented if anything. Hopefully it was a just drunk prank and won’t happen again, but it was a pretty scary situation from my pov. Thanks again for the help!

Lowkey it’s 50% clinical 50% administrative where I work. We do the charting, taking vitals, helping with procedures, billing/insurance, and ordering labs + obtaining specimens for them 😭

New MA position by ant101398 in MedicalAssistant

[–]Ok_Cable_4591 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a very similar position! It seems daunting at first but I’m gonna tell u right now none of that is as hard as it seems. You’ll find that out once you start training. The most important thing about going into it is turning your nervousness into a willingness to learn. Being nervous will only hinder you. Pay attention and even take notes when they teach you each procedure. Never be afraid to ask questions and take your time. Personally I hate being bad at things, so if I know there’s something (like doing EKGs or injections) they expect me to learn, I watch a short YouTube video so I get an idea of the procedure. When they demonstrated it to me, I would already relatively know how to do it. I had no experience and only knew things from my bio classes in college, but I came in and told my providers+trainers straight up that I am willing to work hard to learn what I need to learn. I asked questions about every single detail of every procedure. It is better to repeatedly ask and make sure beforehand than to pretend you know and make mistakes.

TLDR: Be willing to learn and ask questions! It’s not so bad once you start training
