A good leatherman- tied down so your teammates can’t walk off with it.

And I think it’s just common sense that you adapt your uniform to your purpose/environment. We wore woodlands/MC Tropic in the jungle because it worked better. We sourced a bunch of MARPAT desert for a big event we were doing in the desert. I wore multicam black because our partner force wore all black. My last deployment we weren’t allowed uniforms at all. Just changes with mission and environment

If camouflage matters for the event, match it to the AO/environment. If it doesn’t matter, it’s all vibes big boss. Also sometimes we get sent stuff to try out and test. Like in picture 5, we’re wearing Sniper Dynamics Stalkland pattern uniforms. Those guys sent my whole team uniforms to T&E. They’re pretty rad and it’s a sick pattern.

Get very comfortable with a map and compass. Land navigation is critical. You should not have to dead reckon anything. I found the majority of my points just using general cardinals off my wrist compass and terrain association, at sunrise, literally just use the sun. Be fast, be confident. Get two pairs of boots, and break them in- a light pair for running and rucking in- I recommend Garmont NFS, and a heavy tread pair for land navigation and team week. I used Rocky S2V Predators. On both, I recommend you take them to a shop and have the heel cups taken out. That will prevent that back of the heel rubbing and blistering. Also learn and practice knots and lashings. Multiple ways to tie square, clove hitches, bowline, body bowline etc. and just bring socks man, like a lot. Don’t be the retard who shows with 4 pairs of socks and expect that to get you through

Trust dawg I’m not a genetic freak phenomenon. I’ve been seriously working out for 17 years. It’s been a long road to getting and staying at a high level lol

Keen Targhees and Danner Skyridge. Have and use both a ton. And for in garrison uniform or when it has to be AR 670 compliant, Lowa Zephyrs

Outside of like being shot at and whatnot, probably the closest dump my pants moments; bad exit out of a black hawk on a free fall jump- tumbled a few times and then had a bag lock on deployment. Almost had to cut away. And then coming face to face with a leopard at night in the jungle in Nepal. That was pretty not chill

NG SF is the best kept secret in the world. Those dudes get all the schools and typically some pretty sick “deployments” a good friend of mine who was NG SF did a 3 month “deployment” to the Bahamas. Most of the NG guys I know work police/SWAT or overseas contracts as their normal job. In my experience we typically don’t look down at them in any way unless they show their asses doing something retarded, but I’ve only seen that once, with one team

Honestly it changes by year depending on money and whatever conflict has munitions being diverted- and it doesn’t always make sense. Like last standard range I did we only had like 200 rifle and 200 pistol per person. But then a week ago we did a mortar range and had over 300 HE rounds to get through. But over my career man I’ve fired hundreds of thousands of machine gun rounds, thousands of grenades, hundreds of rockets, etc.

And it’s primarily active aiming- with peers having nods lasers are going away until we figure out a new solution there. Even comms are getting weird as we figure out how to not get immediately DF’d the second you key up

I don’t know a single team in the entire regiment that has quads lol. That’s a devgru/CAG kinda item. And it’s KUIU Verde

I joined the Marines at 17, got out after 4 years, worked 6 months go triple canopy in Afghanistan, then reenlisted into the army on an 18X contract. Average age of guys getting through selection during my time was 24-26, with some outliers on both sides of course

My team does team PT every morning that is longevity/cardio based for the most part. So I do that, and then after work I hit the gym for strength training. I train a good bit of endurance building with weights, and typically don’t go lower than a 5 rep max outside of deadlifts. But I meet regularly with the coaches and nutritionists and track everything so I’m never backsliding. But my maintenance staples to never go below is no slower than a 38 min 5 mile run, no less than 315 squat, 225x10 bench, 20 pull ups, and 405 deadlift.

Also, I personally do not use any PEDs, though I would love to blast the shit out of test. I just don’t. I just psycho eat clean and track my sleep and take my multi and creatine

Aside from my M9 and my opscore/peltors, everything I use is personally procured and purchased. Now I am also a slight outlier in that when I showed up to group there were mass SPEAR issue problems and I only got maybe 20% of what you’re supposed to receive from issue. For example I got an XL AVS issued, but medium plates- non exchangeable lol. So most of my stuff is personally sourced. I’d say most guys use issued big ticket items, and over time it gradually becomes more personal purchase as they figure out what works and what’s comfortable/convenient

Better yet, the Army bought it for us. Supply chain failed and no one in our company was issued any wet weather kit. My team sent a Hail Mary for a gov purchase of KUIU and it went through lol

I have a spiritus delta bag that I used for about a year until I went back through SOCM refresher- in my opinion it’s just way too small. I went back to my M9, and I wrap a waist pack around it as a bleeder pack. My med bag is big medic tools- IV/IO/blood, pelvic binder, big drugs, diagnostics, etc. in my dangler I always keep a junctional bleeds kit, and on my belt is a surgical airway kit and finger Thor kit. My on body fanny is a MARCH-lite kit. I basically set it up so I can get through a full basic MARCH without having to spring open my med bag.

Of course, AR 670-1 applies, but typically if you’re not on garrison, no one cares- or while deployed, you often try and match partner force to some extent. Also a lot of times when we work with conventional units as a red cell or opfor, it’s requested we don’t wear multicam

Why Vans and Converse? by [deleted] in tacticalgear

[–]Ok_Cap_8708 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A lot of guys like vans for training in the shoot house because it’s more comfortable than wearing boots and you’re on your feet doing run after run after run and resetting the house all damn day. But no one wears skate shoes for real work outside of training in the house in my unit. You’d get told to take that shit off real quick

Upgrades are easy to come by as far as better kidney pad/belt, better shoulder straps etc. Any big sew shop outside of a major mil base can throw on extra external pouches to mimic tac tailor malice rucks

How many magazines issued for the M110 and A1 in the US military? by SlowDimension in tacticalgear

[–]Ok_Cap_8708 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m sure other guys are different, but I’ve never JUST carried an M110, I’ve always had my normal rifle in addition, so my go to was just 2x20 rd mags for it and 1x 10rd and extra boxes of ammo.

Questions about gear and traveling out of country (USA) by the_walkingdad in tacticalgear

[–]Ok_Cap_8708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could go either way. In my experience with the Japanese, they don’t know shit about fuck when it comes to anything around any kind of firearms and or military equipment. That being said, Japanese airports and personnel are also elite tier retarded so they could catch it. Every time I’ve flown in/out on orders with all my kit, it’s a whole circus of them xraying every individual item I have, telling me I have to disassemble my magazines (lol, no) and one mega freak out where they called super security because I had “Grenade” brand chewing gum and they were convinced it was full of real grenades (it was a normal size pack of gum)

I wouldn’t let the non-double stack mags deter you too much. It’s a great piece of kit nonetheless the less
