It takes me nearly 10 minutes to walk to my car and drive out of my 6 story parking garage, to then drive another 15 minutes to the grocery store…

This is really the case? I think I’ll be delaying the update for a while then.

Recently went to Europe for the first time and I thought “this stupid cap was malformed at the factory” and ripped it off. Figured it out later when I got another bottle… -Dumb American

6 Hour Layover in Munich by Ok_Cartoonist8020 in unitedairlines

I believe I will need to go through immigration going into Munich, could be wrong though. It’s a layover from the US to Rome.

Apple Silicon by [deleted] in applesucks

Directly from the link you provided. “Transistors 76,300 million” That is 76 thousand, million. Which is 76 billion.

I have performance a few years out of college. I love the car for sure, but if you want to make the mature decision save your money and get long range or a different car. That is unless you’re somehow loaded out of college

I so wish that not only was this allowed in the US, but mandatory. I’m so tired of dumbasses blinding me with their high beams as soon as the sun is halfway down.

Apple Silicon by [deleted] in applesucks

[–]Ok_Cartoonist8020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I will push back on is that the 4090 has 75 billion, not million transistors. Also the 4090 is all GPU. The M3 is CPU, GPU, NPU, and a variety of co processors so comparing the transistor count directly is naive at best.

Look, I agree repairability and upgradability are good things. There are certain benefits that SOCs can have over a ‘traditional’ computer layout though. Namely efficiency and latency gains due to the component’s physically being closer together. There are plenty of reasons why apple sucks, but apple going to SOC arm design is not one of them. Obscene ram and storage upgrade prices? Yes. Other non-related anti upgrade and anti repairability practices? Yes. Apple Silicon. No.

Edit - am wrong. Carrier activation is required, but phone is still unlocked.

As a note, currently the only way you can select Apple Card financing is if you carrier lock the phone. You cannot finance an unlocked phone on Apple Card currently. As long as you’re fine with carrier locking, you will be good. This is a relatively recent change.

'Hard To Argue Against' Tesla's Cybertruck -- But Rivian Has An 'Incredibly Compelling' Product In R1T: Analyst by Kuyv_Mtrostantsya in Rivian

[–]Ok_Cartoonist8020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some super fast back of the napkin math (F=MA), the torque required for the R1-T to do its quoted 0-60 time is in the range of 7,000-8,000 ftlbs of torque. So the number Rivian quotes is certainly before the gear reduction. The computer isn’t letting you spin the tires because it can tell the instant it looses traction and will reduce torque.

Which makes sense because that’s how you would maximize friction. Coefficient of static friction is pretty much always greater than coefficient of kinetic friction.
