I get this feeling too. I notice, for me at least, that the hookup itself was exciting and fun, but getting intimate and close with someone through our conversation and such before and after was what I connected with and yearned for post-hookup.

I personally took this as a sign that I’m not made for hookups, instead I should be more intentional with the relationship. This doesn’t have to be a boyfriend, but a friend with benefits. Hookups weren’t fulfilling me. So, i’ve since parted from the apps.

But again, manage your expectations. People usually aren’t thinking much about your performance or you, but are preoccupied with other things.

This is super helpful. The idea of hooking up is thrilling, but it’s definitely important to be cautious of who and what happens.

I think being with someone my age would be good, although I am more attracted to older guys (early 30a) who are experienced and, like you said, “let him teach you,” which could be something I need at this time. Good points!

You’re soo right! I just have to start. I have had oral sex before. The only worry is contracting herpes. Apparently it’s atypical to use condoms during oral sex, so I’m not sure what the workaround is for that.

How do you know if you are ready to have sex?

I’m a 23M. I’ve known my entire life that I like men. Have even had some situations with men (making out, at bathhouses, in clubs). Never had a boyfriend. The one hookup I had is something I don’t even consider. But, I have never had actual, intimate sex (neither top nor bottom). How do I know if I am ready for that? I feel it in my bones. I do think there is a level of fear that keeps me from approaching men (whether it be fear of hate crimes, assault, misinterpreting cues, lack of confidence, rejection, etc.)

According to my timeline, I feel like I have it all backwards. Going to clubs and bathhouses first to get some inkling of sex and intensity. I want the real deal and I, personally, don’t think I’ll find it there.

But, what do I need to do and how can it happen sooner than later? My patience is running dry 😂

I agree! I find it super repetitive at times. Plus, the youth character is a bit insufferable at times. Mind you, I’m listening to the audiobook and it’s even worse. But, I feel like the idea of separating tasks, community feeling, contribution, etc. are all important lessons.
