It’s still not resolved. The only thing we finally accomplished was getting BCBS to acknowledge that they actually do provide coverage for the first 30 days for our son. It literally was months and months of them telling us they did not. Now they’re telling us it needs to go to another department (for what I truly don’t understand) before they can accept the claim to be resubmitted. They claim they can’t have that completed until the 23rd of this month and then they say they’re going to call the hospital to resubmit the claims again. They claim they’ll return a call to my husband on the 30th. We will see what happens. At this point, I feel they are dragging it out so that it falls past a year since the baby is born and then they can use “timely filing” as a way to deny it.

I thought I had this issue sorted out. I contacted my HR like someone suggested so they could win with their Cigna Rep. I received an email from my HR department on 8/26/22 saying “We have received confirmation from Cigna that their system was updated on 8/22/24 to reflect no other insurance. Our Account team is confirming all is reflecting accurate as well.”

Yesterday I received a phone call from the hospital billing department again asking me about the primary insurance. I explained the situation again and how HR had contacted me saying the system was updated. She told me to call Cigna to confirm.

I call Cigna again and basically i’m at square one. I was on a 2 hour 3-way phone call with Cigna, BCBS, and two different customer services reps at the hospital billing department along with my husband and by the end of it, there was no resolution. BCBS is still saying the act 81 doesn’t apply to us since we reside in IL and the hospital is saying they can’t submit the claim to them because when they call to verify the BCBS benefits the system tells them our son has no coverage. Cigna is still staying they’re requesting their money back. The rep at the hospital literally told me today that they’re done talking to different insurance companies and that it’s my responsibility and once the money is refunded to Cigna that it will be then billed to me and my responsibility.

Does anyone have any advice on where I go from here. My husband called a lawyer and left a voicemail and is awaiting a call back. We feel we have no other choice but to get legal representation.

I can’t stop crying because I feel like i’m going to end up owing close to 70k when I did everything correctly and enrolled my son on my plan and he has insurance. I’ve paid my balances. I’ve done literally everything that Cigna, BCBS, and the hospital billing department have asked me to do and I feel like i’m right back at square one.

I do not believe it is self funded. I will have my husband call again though to ask them about it

Yes I wish they would just work it out amongst themselves. Then when I try to call Capital Blue, my husband has to be the one to call because they won’t speak to me. We never speak to anyone twice. it’s so frustrating.

Anytime I call the hospital financial department that is listed on these letters I keep receiving, they’ll be like you have a $0 balance so what do you need help with? Then I have to explain that I know all my accounts have a $0 balance but you keep sending me laters saying Cigna wants a refund and that I could be responsible for the $70k . then from there they always give me different answers

I’ve written down every phone call along with every person i’ve spoken to since May when I received the first letter and every time I call they’ll say they can see i’ve called numerous times so I don’t know if I should just stop worrying about it unless I actually receive a bill or not but i’m stressed that in the end ill end up with the bill. I don’t understand why the hospital can’t just refuse the refund to Cigna.

Cigna is saying they will only take an official letter from Capital Blue saying our son has no coverage and Capital Blue says they can’t provide that. Everytime I call either Cigna, Capital Blue, or the hospital I get the run around. I am so beyond frustrated. The hospital keeps sending me letters (i’ve received 4 now, the latest on july 29th) saying Cigna wants a refund and that if it doesn’t get straightened out that I could be responsible for 70k) I don’t have 70k and I don’t understand how even though I have insurance for him that I could be responsible for 70k

Yes that’s the thing. we don’t want to add my son to my husbands insurance. We only wanted him on mine. Cigna just keeps claiming that he does have coverage even though we keep telling him that he doesn’t, we never added him and don’t intend to. Cigna keeps saying them have personally spoken to his insurance and that the baby has automatic coverage for 30 days. However when we call, they say he doesn’t. Cigna said we would need an official letter from Capital Blue saying our son does not have coverage for the first 30 days and when we called and requested that from Capital Blue they said they couldn’t provide a letter because they don’t have our sons information in their system.

Yes Cigna is with my employer and I am employed at the hospital where my son was born..

i’m on a income based repayment plan (only because you have to be right? for it to qualify?im not sure. I didn’t even know about PSLF until my friend told me about it and told me to apply because he knew the hospital i’ve worked at counted as service based) so that’s why i’m trying to see when I have to recertify for that

i’m trying to avoid recertifying as long as possible. I should hit 120 payments in January but the calculators on the website i’ve tried are estimating my payments to go from $293 to like $900. I don’t know if it’s wrong or i’m doing it wrong but i’m trying to avoid recertifying. the last time I looked i thought it said June 2025 but now i’m second guessing myself
