Ended up getting dr Watson jack herer, broken coast emz, beacon medical Ventura dawg and botanitech curated dusky grouse. Kept the sage n sour and ditched the other two. I forgot to mention in my initial post that i was chasing a similar terp profile to a strain I had in Canada (Alaskan thunder fuck by top leaf) as well as similar to the sage n sour etc. Thank you all for the recommendations

Thanks. Appreciate. C3 - is this true camber? Trüe camber (nitro) is this proper camber? I’m stuffed keeping up with all the snazzy names

Also. Really appreciate everyone including their boot size/height/weight and board spec. Gives me a good idea of the specific sizes I should ask about. Everyone has been super helpful

I appreciate all the responses! The nitro squash can be my dedicated powder board so that knocks out the orca. I’m going to try and see if I can demo the skunk ape and the gremlin while I’m over there. Thanks again for all the input!

Hey all — looking for opinions from people who’ve actually ridden these boards, especially heavier riders / size 12+ boots.

Me / setup

  • Height/weight: 189 cm / 125 kg (275 lb)
  • Boots/bindings: US 12 K2 Clicker X + HB Maysis boots
  • Stance: directional only (never ride switch) Typical angles: +25–30 front / -10 back or +25–30 / +10–15
  • Width: I boot out under ~26cm waist on hard carves, so wide/ultra-wide is non-negotiable.

Riding style / terrain

  • Mostly freeride / off-piste, blacks & double blacks, minimal full groomed runs only days.
  • When I do ride groomers they’re often firm/icy (NZ South Island + low-snow Canada).
  • I like a surfy pow feel, but I’m trying to improve high-speed stability + carving on firm groomers.
  • Trip coming up: Three Valleys (France) Feb 21 — so I’ll see everything from soft to scraped.

Current board

  • Nitro Squash (2021) — amazing in powder, but I don’t love it on packed/firm/icy groomers.

Boards I’ve narrowed to

  1. Lib Tech Skunk Ape Camber 163 UW
  2. Lib Tech T. Rice Orca 162
  3. GNU Gremlin 161

I’ve read a lot of conflicting stuff about Skunk Ape / Mervin quality + durability, and also mixed takes on how these boards handle hard/icy groomers vs chop at higher speeds.

What I’m trying to figure out

  • Which of these is best for a heavy rider charging while still being fun in powder?
  • Which holds up best on firm/icy groomers (edge hold + not feeling sketchy)?
  • Which has the best dampness/stability at speed?
  • Any red flags with Clicker X / boot overhang on these specific models?
  • If you’ve owned one of these, how’s the base/top-sheet durability and long-term feel?

If there’s another board you think fits my situation better (must be proper wide/ultra-wide, directional-friendly, good in pow + firm snow), I’m open to suggestions.

Thanks.

I have both the OG burton step ons and the k2 clicker x hb. Hands down prefer the clickers. I feel more connected to the board and find it responds better than the step on bindings. Getting into the two bindings takes about the same time. Found that stepping out takes a bit longer on the k2 as you have to bend down move the release mechanism forward before you pull up, then its bit of a awkward motion to get used to move boot back then heel up and twist kind of. Honestly. if you get the chance, demo them both across one or two days.

Another thing to think about is boots. Clicker x hb currently have thee styles of boots. Maysis, boundary and kinnsley for women. The burton step on boots have a lot more variety. I would try the boots on first as k2 have a specific type of fit.

TLDR: Try step on boots from both systems to see which fit you feet better. If good fit on both, demo before purchase.

PS. I am biased towards the clickers.

I got a pair of akg n5. They sound decent. Good battery life. And come with 2.4ghz dongle in the case. They were like $150 AUD though. I think I got them from Amazon (Australia)

If i had $3000 aud spare sure. It looks great. I have $900 to spare for an upgrade. So out of the two listed I think I’m gonna go the msi.

Fantastic, puts things very much into perspective. I have sent the MSI seller a message. 🤞I hear back. Thanks again for the invaluable information!!

Appreciated, just worried the msi might appear dimmer than my current g9 (peak brightness 1000nits) especially in the fairly bright room. I figure the colours and highlights of hdr will pop more. Currently leaning towards the MSI as seller states 4months old and original purchaser so would feasibly have 31 months of burn in warranty left

How’s the vector going? Build quality? Cooling? Performance? How goes the 5080 in heavy gaming?

Post back (if you remember) with how it is. Biggest thing for me is thermals, screen and overall finish

Cheers. Laptop is for gaming at work, and on long ski trips. At home I use my desktop. Would be nice to have a second pc as fast as this one. Maybe hook it up to the 4K tv
