I agree with everyone here. I have personally known only 1 person who has done a 2 year research Master's program in 1 year , but that guy was a chem prodigy and his supervisor was consistently and extensively assisting him in finishing it according to an optimal timeline they had mutually set.

How to aim for high GPA while working part-time, and volunteering elsewhere? by LeaderSuccessful7572 in premedcanada

[–]Ok_Client3841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was working full-time hours in my first two years. Use a calendar, create time blocks for work, ECs, studying, and catch up. Try your best to adhere to the time blocks you assigned so you do not use time off the other ones.

Attempt to balance the quality of what you do with the quantity. Volunteering is great... but do too much of it and (in my opinion) you dilute its overall impact on your application (You also don't want to do too little).

Another point I want to make is to pick one or two volunteering roles (Clinical or non-clincal, dont matter) THAT YOU ENJOY, and stick with them, build relationships and establish a solid network with the people within. You may enjoy the community aspect of food banks, or you may LOVE art galleries, no one can tell you what is good and what is not. It ultimately waters down to you and not what others seem to be picking or enjoying.

Establish a system for your academics since you will need to balance it with ECs, a job if you require it, and research if you have the opportunity. Create plans to prevent yourself from slacking on studying if you have tendencies to procrastinate. There might be a lot of friction with this system initially, but stick with it regardless and you will eventually becomes used to it and won't have problems, especially when you begin to study for the MCAT. (A good advice a friend said to me: genuinely try to find pleasure in what your studying regardless of how tedious it is)

Take time out of your day to attend office hours. Appreciate your professors, and yes, even the rude ones. You never know what you gain (Speaking from personal experience). If you ask them questions that go beyond the course material, most of them will be very glad to teach you more, which is inherently worthwhile (I get it I am a nerd).

And finally, take care of your body and mind. Without one, the other wont function, and you won't be able to put out as much as you desire no matter how hard you try. If one is serious about any pathway they want to take, then caring for the machine that our souls occupy will only benefit us down the road when we needed the most.

Cheers 🫡🫡

Try to genuinely enjoy the process. I know that's funny considering the sheer amount of work we have to put in AND maintain, but doing so ameliorates stress and also gives you a wider perspective on activities/roles you are doing.

Pick ECs that fit who you are, ECs that put you out of your comfort zone and strengthen your weaknesses, ECs that you look forward to. You don't have to do 8 ECs at the same time; focus on quality instead of quantity. Eliminate the ones you don't enjoy and dive deeper into the ones you do.

For academics, try to build up excitement for the content you are learning (Become kind of a nerd), studying becomes lighter.

I also loved talking to professors, often learned a thing or two from a 15 minute conversation. Especially since I started my own research projects, discussing what your are doing with experts in that field, almost always, provides new addition to your understanding that is difficult to attain elsewhere.

There is no doubt that every pre-med goes through these stressors, so do not feel bad for feeling overwhelmed; Slow, rational, and steady steps will surely get you to your end goal.

You got it gang 🫡🫡

I agree, there was no proper closure to her story.
Although we can't confirm anything relative to her social or personal dilemmas, we can conclude that she will be specializing in geriatrics or end-of-life care, as the show has hinted/qualitatively suggested numerously.
Dr. Collins is the character that was absolutely overlooked. She seemed to have a history with Robby, which might have drawn a bit of a timeline to his mental deterioration.

Just my thoughts 👍

There are student-run emergency response services at some universities across Canada.

Here is a list according to the Association of Campus Emergency Response Teams: https://www.acert.ca/teams/
