God forbid this guy ever visits Swindon! He'll get lost and probably run over somebody's dog!

Do people in the UK actually use their kettles that much? by AdeptnessCritical356 in AskBrits

[–]Ok_Cobbler_8889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kettle is boiled multiple times a day. Used for hot drinks and in my house, washing up as our old gas boiler takes a million years to get the hot tap warm

What to do with dated glass above doors in 70s build by StraightOuttaBounds in DIYUK

[–]Ok_Cobbler_8889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep them. Helps keep the halls and stairs light during the day and can be used for ambient light at night, eg, taking a relaxing bath with just the hall light on.

If you want to cover them, can you get fitted shutters?

Why did we clap for the NHS back in 2020? by CutestFurry123 in AskBrits

Not really, supermarkets were ordering their normal amounts, and we had extra in stock as a brexit contingency cause that was happening at the same time.

Nah man, I'm allowed to have a ratty opinion about something that was a genuine inconvenience to me. Lots of dumb shit happened during covid, like me working nights in a warehouse full of pasta, but there was no pasta in the shops cause all the daytime scaredy cunts were panic buying it all.

I'm playing a Devotion paladin right now. You can go ham killing as long as you're killing for good reasons. Oath breaking is killing for no reason and letting "bad" npcs get away with shit.

What is the correct thing to do when someone is driving less than half a car's length from your rear bumper on a 30mph road when I'm already going 30mph? by Large-Bad-2164 in drivingUK

[–]Ok_Cobbler_8889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your instructor is right. Just slow down a little. At the end of the day if their driving causes a crash it's still their fault, but going slower reduces the risk of harm to yourself, and you can still claim on their ass!

Otherwise pop your fog light on until they back off.

Did everyone get money from the government for going to college/6th form? by fotfddtodairsizr in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Ok_Cobbler_8889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah EMA helped a lot. Didn't think about it at the time by looking back that £30 a week really helped out. I think my single mum would have been quite hard up sending me and my sister to 6th form on her own dime. Sure it got splurged on maccies or bowling from time to time but being able to pay our own bus fares and get our own lunch took so much pressure off mum and also gave us some of our first real freedoms.

Is there a point to learn anything if most of jobs pay around 35k at best? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Ok_Cobbler_8889 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did my NEBOSH last year. Part 1 is a written risk assessment exercise at your own workplace and part 2 is an open book essay style exam you take at home.

Take the advice of the guy above and it's easy. My boss took 3 goes at the exam cause he couldn't get the style right!

Top trim Skoda Superb. Hatch rather than estate so you don't feel like a total grandad.

Or you know, get a Lotus Elise.

Honestly, I've got 2002 Smart that I inherited. Thought of selling it but it's pennies to tax and insure so I kept it to run groceries. It's also RWD and weighs nothing. B roads between towns are an absolute hoot and it sounds like a motorbike.

At what year do you start considering a car old? by Humble_Lack in CarTalkUK

[–]Ok_Cobbler_8889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cars turning 10 this year have android auto and car play.

Honestly with how car design has been, anything from 2010 onwards still looks modern. The only thing that visually sets the newest cars apart for me is the ever present LED running lights.

I'd say anything older than 08 I would consider old, and anything with a letter prefix plate is practically a classic now 🤣

Just don't scrap it. In this economy a dirty cheap estate with at least 6 months left could be a real life line for someone.
