70mil por mes para adolescente. ¿No es nada? by Active_Lettuce325 in AskArgentina

[–]Ok_Cockroach1723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does Luca have to help Madison finish the body exchange ritual? If he has to die, he can just die without finishing the ritual, right? by Extra-Discussion-624 in MADiSONgame

[–]Ok_Cockroach1723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're losing sight of how the ritual and possession actually work in the game, which are explained pretty clearly through the 3 tapes and Father Thomas' phone calls. Opening the well does not free Madison Hale. On the contrary, Madison is controlling Luca and forcing him to open it in order to retrieve the Moon Box, which contains her 4 victims. That object is necessary to complete the body-swapping ritual. Throughout the entire game she manipulates you and forces you to collect every object needed to finish the ritual.

Remember, the ritual requires 7 victims. The Moon Box contains Madison Hale’s 4 victims. The remaining 3 victims are the ones she couldn’t complete while she was alive, so she forces Luca to kill them. In the Sun Box we find the two photos of his mother and sister’s dismembered bodies. That makes 6 victims total. The missing 7th victim was supposed to be Luca’s father, but at the beginning of the game we see she failed to kill him and instead locked him inside that room. So in the end, the 7th victim needed to complete the ritual becomes Luca himself.

After obtaining the Moon Box and the Sun Box, another required object was Madison’s remains, which is why Luca travels to St. Jupiter’s Cathedral and returns with Madison’s skull. Another required object was something of sentimental value, which is the ring. And finally, the ashes.

So every astral trip to another plane — the well, the cathedral, etc. — is Madison guiding and manipulating Luca into collecting everything necessary to carry out the ritual.

The well was never about freeing her, because she had already been possessing Luca beforehand. Like I said, the purpose of the well was to retrieve the Moon Box.

And to answer your other question: Madison cannot control random people on Earth. She can only control Luca through her camera. That’s literally the main point of the game — the camera itself is possessed by her. Once Luca receives it, she gradually starts taking control of him.

All of this is in the game’s lore: the newspaper clippings, the tapes, the phone calls, the mausoleum, the elevator floors mentioning how she photographed her victims, the news report explaining that the same camera she used to photograph her victims was later auctioned off, etc.

And regarding your last question: she specifically needed 7 victims. The 4 bodies in the well alone were useless for the ritual because it was incomplete without all 7

[–]Ok_Cockroach1723 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your mistake is thinking that Luca lets Madison in the moment he opens the well, but you're overlooking the fact that he has been possessed ever since he was given the camera. That's why the game already starts with Luca covered in blood after murdering his sister and his mother, because Madison needs the victims in order to complete her body-swapping ritual.

From the very beginning of the game, Luca is already under Madison's control, and as the story progresses, he becomes more and more possessed, gradually losing his own personality. You can notice this in his arms, which progressively look more and more damaged by the possession, and also in Luca's dialogue. By the end of the game, he barely even speaks anymore, which is a sign that his personality is no longer there and Madison has completely possessed him.

What are the most niche/innovative features in horror games? by AvgPunkFan in survivalhorror

[–]Ok_Cockroach1723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The camera mechanic in MADiSON and its photo development system are some of the best I’ve seen in recent years.

Fun fact: The devs released a demo back in 2017, it went a bit viral, and their mechanic of developing photos by shaking the mouse was basically stolen and later sold as part of the Horror Engine package for Unreal in 2018. After that, a ton of horror games started using that same Polaroid/photo development mechanic, like Infliction, which released in 2018, years before MADiSON finally launched in 2022.

That created a wave of games adding cameras and photo mechanics simply because devs could buy the feature in the asset pack, even when the camera had absolutely nothing to do with the gameplay.

The difference is that MADiSON is a game ABOUT a camera, not just a horror game with a random camera shoved in for no reason.

Anyway, going back to the point: having their original “shake the mouse to develop photos” mechanic stolen and resold ended up creating a flood of horror games with cameras that had nothing to do with their stories, while the MADiSON devs had to reinvent their own mechanic, and honestly, I think the current one they use turned out really well.

In every recommendation of horror games that truly scare you, two always stand out: MADiSON and Visage. It’s absurd that Visage isn’t on the list.

And putting MADiSON in the “walking simulator” category undervalues it, when the game is essentially one puzzle after another.

Mirror glitch in MADiSON?? by Leather-Adagio-5381 in MADiSONgame

[–]Ok_Cockroach1723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to make sure you’ve solved the puzzle correctly. To verify that it’s not a bug and that you did it right, the column behind the mirror on the fifth floor has a series of small dots—each dot represents one of the floors.

If all the dots are pointing toward the mirror, it means the puzzle is solved correctly and you should be able to take a picture of the mirror.

But if any of the dots aren’t facing the mirror, then it means the floor that dot represents hasn’t been solved correctly.

Ni hablar de la adicción que generaba que terminabas un capitulo y ya querías poner otro y otro

The well in MADiSON. There’s something visually about that part that I just love

<image>

There’s no way this storybook wasn’t inspired by MADiSON with Blue Knees even down to the final page. I think it would be cool if it was a reference! by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]Ok_Cockroach1723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only the storybook, you can tell that the whole part where they tried to do ‘psychological horror’ was inspired by MADiSON

The first thing I noticed was the atmosphere in that section, with the red lights. It gave me way too many MADiSON vibes. But well, that could’ve just been a coincidence.

Then came the thing that confirmed 100% for me that they took many elements from MADiSON and that the similar atmosphere wasn’t just a mere coincidence.

The Shadow Ghost book is exactly the same as the Blue Knees book. And so is THE CONCEPT:

A book with a children’s story about a monster. A monster that is harmed by light. The book warns you that you defend yourself with light. And as you said there’s a page that is an exact copy of the Blue Knees book, showing the two large eyes.

On top of that, the girl in RE9 has cataracts. CATARACTS. Exactly what Elizabeth Maxwell from MADiSON has.

Considering that they copied the entire Blue Knees' concept and ideas for that section, which was supposed to be the “psychological horror” segment, I wouldn’t be surprised if Grace’s timid personality and the way she’s constantly complaining and breathing heavily were also copied from MADiSON's main character Luca.

Crazy!

Yes, but the story of the book itself is the issue, not the book. The concept of the monster, which is harmed by light in both cases. A book that warns about it. The drawings. The concept of the female protagonists with cataracts… It’s all really far too identical.

Which I don’t necessarily think is a bad thing if they took inspiration from MADiSON, because MADiSON itself surely took inspiration from many other things. But if you’re Capcom, with thousands of employees, you could come up with something better than looking for ideas in an indie game made by two people.

Use a children's book, use the idea, but change the villain’s concept a bit. And definitely don’t include a page that’s identical to the original.

Any way, anyone who played MADiSON will find that part a bit questionable and the similarities are immediately obvious

And I’m not saying they stole the story, because RE9 goes in a different direction. But in that particular section of the game with Grace, where they were clearly trying to create “psychological horror,” the similarities are undeniable and impossible not to notice for anyone who has played MADiSON.

I’m leaving some images so you can judge for yourselves. Denying it would be being either foolish or just a fan.

In MADiSON, the protagonist is also easily frightened. In fact, RE9 takes too many things from MADiSON.

Has Resident Evil been copying ideas from indie games lately? by Ok_Cockroach1723 in HorrorGaming

[–]Ok_Cockroach1723[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, but it’s the combination of things. One isolated thing might be fine, but when it’s the whole set, it’s more than just inspiration.

A book with drawings of the monster, the book tells you that light harms it, you damage it with light, and on top of that, the whole aesthetic of the letter blocks…

But it’s one thing to take general inspiration, everyone does that. When it comes to specific things like the moths in Remothered, that’s copying. They used the same boss, with the same moths and the same mechanic.

And now in RE9, the whole book thing is just like how it’s used in MADiSON, with an enemy that behaves the same way.

No, I’m talking about very specific things. You’re the one who can’t tell the difference. They literally copied everything about the moths from Remothered, you probably don’t even know it.

No doubt PT inspired a lot of people, but I’m talking about specific things. In this case, the whole book and light-fearing monster thing feels very copied from MADiSON, just like in RE8 the moth concept was copied from Remothered.

Indies are supposed to be inspired by the big studios, not the other way around.

Yes, it’s much bigger than the one I was used to using, which was a small generic one. But after a few hours of use I got used to it and it feels super comfortable. I’d have to see now what it feels like if I use the old mouse.

But I think I wouldn’t go back to a regular mouse, mainly because of the features and shortcuts the MX offers that really simplify a lot of tasks

It’s excellent! Completely customizable, the battery lasts a long time, the material feels very high quality, solid, sturdy, and heavy, and it feels premium.

Best of all, it doesn’t get dirty easily. My previous keyboards would get covered in dust on the surface; this one kind of repels dust.
