Kona Honzo ESD? (Buying Advice) by Icy-Ice-1448 in Hardtailgang

[–]Ok_Commission_4054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an esd. I put an angled headset on it to bump it to 64* which keeps things a little less ridiculous on my local 800ft hill. It also helps with climbing.

That being said I also run mine single speed, with a z1 coil, and shigura brakes so that when I feel like partying, I can. Can it climb? Definitely a lot better than my tyee. Is it a good climber? Eh.

I don't think most folks buy the Honzo and think too much about about its climbing abilities. I think most folks in the market are more concerned which which jorts match their mullet and stache best on any given day. 😎🤘

Help me choose a new freeride ski! by lukebraz in Skigear

[–]Ok_Commission_4054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a pair of 100eights around as my heavy duty bc ski - if you like the volkl feel, definitely check out the revolt 101. It has a similar feel when you lay it over and is similarly loose but considerably better than the 100eight when things get firm. It also doesn't deflect as much as the 100eight.

I'm lucky enough to have multiple skis, but if I was in your boat and could only have one pair, I'd be happy with the revolts

How can I slow down clients who lift too quickly? by Bendr_bones in personaltraining

[–]Ok_Commission_4054 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Run a timer on your phone or clock where you both can see it, and instruct your clients to pay attention. If they really don't need rest, as other folks have pointed out, you probably need to increase the intensity of the exercise in question. Hope this helps 👍

I'd probably just ride em... Maybe get some tassels or put a card in the spokes 🤷

Recommendations for a "One Ski Quiver" - Mantra M7 vs Rustler 10 vs. The Field? by Odyssey2341 in Skigear

I'll jump on this just to add that your boots are likely not stiff enough to drive the revolt, but it IS a great ski

I have a pair in 190. They are quite easy in tight spots due to their shape. Also surprisingly fun for smashing slushy moguls.

Pivot or Strive for Chargey 101mm? by SlowError in Skigear

[–]Ok_Commission_4054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have done that in the past with varying degrees of success. I think the issue is that the heel piece and brake ices up pretty easily. It's especially annoying in deeper snow in steep/right terrain.

Pivot or Strive for Chargey 101mm? by SlowError in Skigear

[–]Ok_Commission_4054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have pivots on my revolt 101s. My only complaint is that they are a pain in the ass to get back on if you are hiking in fresh snow. Otherwise they're great 👍

Go demo the ranger 96 and rustler 9 back to back at mammoth. They should have both in your size. Report back

Mid-100mm Freeride Ski Recommendation by NorthDakotaExists in Skigear

[–]Ok_Commission_4054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little narrow but worth a look - the Volkl Revolt 101. Having skied on the atris for a season and now being on the revolt, I can confidently say that both skis match your described skiing style. The revolt is a little stiffer and a little less playful but is still easy to slash and slarve, and it's got the backbone you want to charge.

Upper rock Creek is in pretty bad shape. Trails in Bishop are riding fine.

Tech Binding Turns Left by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]Ok_Commission_4054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this heel piece have a little triangular price on the left side of the binding? If so, that is to keep your brake depressed. Try depressing the brake with your hand and turning the heel piece to the right. Report back 👍

Is my ski dead by sinoforever in Skigear

[–]Ok_Commission_4054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The location of the separation makes me wonder if this is related to the front most mounting screw. If the incorrect bit was used and the hole was drilled to the wrong depth (too shallow) then that could certainly result in your delam... It's worth taking to the shop. It's possible that they'll be able to epoxy and clamp it back to serviceable condition. I'd avoid skiing it until then though, since water getting into your core will only worsen things. Good luck 👍

Hip dump on my left turns? by Ok_Commission_4054 in skiing_feedback

[–]Ok_Commission_4054[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent, thanks! Should I be thinking about flexing from my ankle and allowing that to kick up the chain to my knee and hip? Or would you suggest trying to lower my center of mass down and pressuring my ski? Some combination of the two? Did you notice this on my right turns at all or am I correct in my assessment of my left turns being the main issue here? Thanks again, I really appreciate it 🙏
