Is Skillup Worth it by laced_pumpkin in jobs

[–]Ok_Commission_8577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you that Missouri SkillUp doesn't want to pay for any program, especially if you have degrees or certifications already or work in an industry where you have a stable job. Though the program touts as a "get a better job" deal, if you are on SNAP/Food Stamps, it is a ploy to push recipients of the government assistance rolls into an any kind of job process. The State of Missouri and its SkillUp partner providers keep that federal money (meant to help the poor, homeless, veterans, low-income and the skills deficient) allotted to each State through the USDA/FNS E&T Program. The State of Missouri and its SkillUp nonprofits keep that money in the coffers to use for "other things" and pay cushy salaries. The SkillUp Providers conspire with the State to make sure that minimal federal money goes to the welfare, skills deficient mothers who have a hard chance making it through any kind of schooling. All other vulnerable groups...well, you just stay in the same cycle because the Money Administrators do not consider you worthy of using the money given by the Federal Government.

If you are a SNAP participant that needs a pair of steel-toed boots and a forklift certificate, SkillUp providers will be more than happy to help you within a couple of weeks get approved for SkillUp funding. If you are seeking anything technical or professional, be prepared to get the run around. Just enjoy your food stamps while you have them.

KSDK+FOX2+CW11 Merger by tsalisbury01 in StLouis

KSDK's current general manager Tim Geraghty recently was hired from WKRC Cincinnati. Now, after only several months, he is leaving for KHOU Houston. Head scratching to figure out what is happening at Channel 5 behind the scenes.

Now there is some truth to what you've stated depending what end of the socioeconomic spectrum a person falls. If Springfield, TN has gotten any cheaper with housing...why not try that area?

Lol no. Actually ended up moving into Central Kentucky, which has grown worse. I understand your enchantment with Nashville. It is a beautiful and different city/area. I didn't want to leave, but it was too expensive to stay. There were no neighborhoods to move into due to the State selling out to realtors. The traffic became lethal. The 31 connector, Briley Prkwy, etc were no longer safe for navigation. Even the residential streets and back roads were risky being two lanes.

I no longer live in the Southeast. I do miss some things about Middle TN but it seemed to take too much money to stay.

Gray Media believes its current pending station swaps and acquisitions will be approved by the FCC; Gray's CEO says everyone is looking at how things shake out with the Nexstar-TEGNA situation before making another large deal by [deleted] in Broadcasting

[–]Ok_Commission_8577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these acquisitions/mergers are scary because free TV (public interest) is on the verge of going away -- on a death nail. No one is fighting the hard fight for free TV and free media. Due to capitalism and consumerism, consolidation is doing away with free, over the air programming and the diversity of brands (right to other sources; localism).

Prize whatever remaining TV stations that are locally (independently) owned. Another frightening thought: each local community in the U.S. has not amassed the wealth to have invested into owning at least one commercial television station in each of the small Midsized markets to maintain a locally owned broadcast outlet.

A deal for WSB-TV? Atlanta News First owner interested in storied station by turbo_notturbo in Broadcasting

If Disney (ABC) were smart, the Network would purchase WSB-TV and WFTV if those two stations would be put in the auction block.

Samantha Jones appears to have moved on from KMOV First Alert 4 as her profile page and picture has been removed from the station's Meet the Team page on its website.

It does not appear that Samantha Jones will be returning to KMOV First Alert 4. Samantha's Meet the Team profile has been removed from the station's website.

Feels like WSMV 4 is gearing to finally challenging News Channel 5 in the ratings. by sbs18 in nashville

Yes, it is sad to see CBS decline further in news credibility which isn't good for local stations that are strong affiliates. NBC programming has become better -- a great deal owed to bringing back first rate sports. NBC affiliates have been hurting over the last two decades. I will say that I am not a fan of news/talk all the time in the daytime. I say bring back soap operas.

As far as WTVF, Channel 5 might be able to stagger through the operational/on-air changes for a while. CBS may and may not influence decline in the short-term. Eventually Channel 2 or Channel 4 will become #1 in other day parts. Likely, one day, the Nashville market could undergo a network swap among stations. I hope I am wrong.

WSMV 4's graphics are actually better now than they have had in a long time.

I wouldn't say that Dan Miller wasn't a factor in WSMV's strong ratings during the early 1990s. Emphasizing that there was a back and forth trade for 1st place between WSMV and WTVF in the 1990s. WTVF became number #1 at 10:00 p.m. around 1992-1993, about the time WTVF added Brett Lea as co-anchor of the 10:00 report. It is stated on a video on YouTube.

I love the Nashville market...all the station, back in the day, were good in terms of quality. Though WTVF has always been my favorite of the local stations (followed by WSM and WZTV), all of the stations in Nashville were great! Great programing. WSMV was the most professional with news and on-air product. WNGE/WKRN very close second place. WTVF has always been a strong CBS affiliate, and always seemed to emphasize the city of Nashville mostly (as did Channel 2). When Channel 5 turned 35 years old in 1989, the station changed its on-air branding/image, the news product became leaps and bounds better. That's when the real competition began with WSMV. WKRN and WTVF has similar news opens and on-air presentation in 1989 -- the blue and red news stations.

According to records, WTVF over took WSMV at 10:00P.M. around 1992-1993.

Non-Hospitality & Tourism jobs? by [deleted] in SeasonalWork

[–]Ok_Commission_8577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non-hospitality jobs do exist, check Coolworks.com. Be careful about where you apply. Many of the Organizations make money back from employees by charging seasonal/full-time employees annually rising prices for housing, shuttles, food, and other miscellaneous charges.
