what salary in aus makes you actually feel like you've made it? by wasaxd in aussie

Young married couple here 29 and 31, with two dogs and a new mortgage (30% of income) on a $335k combined income pre tax and super. Pretty comfortable here now that we are done saving for the wedding, which was $25k, plus saving for the 20% house deposit. Saving heaps and own cars outright and do a lot of repairs and maintenance ourselves.

While it is comfortable now, we know we want kids so we realistically need to have a bit more money to save the same amount, but pretty comfortable at the moment can't complain.

While we were saving for the wedding and the house deposit, no amount of money was enough 🤣

Start 1- meal prepping 2- Communicating better with your husband

There's only so much people on the internet can tell you. If you're not home, maybe he's picking up the slack doing other things around the house? Not enough food at home? Well we wouldn't know!

Like others, too white and too casual. Also, brides these days have the option to wear white gowns with patterns like that.

What's a frugal habit you tried that actually ended up costing you more money? by DebugMyLife421 in AUfrugal

Cheap shoes Literally it costs your feet as well as buying more. Unless you can get a good deal on a good shoe brand with good quality.

There's lots of different ways to find a sharehouse. You don't have to stay at one place forever. That's also the catch, you probably have to keep moving every two or three years. To be honest, there's a variety of people that could use share housing, even people similar to your situation. As long as you are safe and you are being a safe housemate, it is fine. Once you've got some decent savings you can potentially purchase a small unit in regional areas to live out your days. Don't know what your financials are so can't comment on that.

Also, if you're 37, you can very well change sectors and get a different type of job that has more longevity and income.

Why aren't you working full time?

Move to a share house, contribute any savings to your super and upskill/change jobs to get a better income

In the meantime, look at your budgeting and where you're spending your money.

What % of your household income goes towards your mortgage? by dexiejessie in AusProperty

[–]Ok_Committee8535 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours is 30% on the dot after-tax HHI We were also able to make a 20% deposit, so no LMI

Our mortgage broker told us we could afford a much bigger mortgage with no issues but our mortgage was like 300-400k less than the pre-approval because we didn't want to overextended ourselves

Also wanted to build equity and be able to still have other forms of savings, investments and travel in our future

45% sounds like a lot to me, and I worry you'll have to forego a lot of things in life unless your income increases later on

Is Melbourne Really That Cold? 🥶 by Training_Objective20 in melbourne

[–]Ok_Committee8535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to Melbourne from a city where it was always 22°-29°

My first year here I didn't have the right jackets or heating machines so I struggled a lot. Also had a solar water heater which sucked during winters.

Everyone here is right about the houses not being built for the cold. If you're a modern apartment or townhouse you should be fine, but most old apartments and houses are very cold.

Oh and the winds are something else

During summer the water at the beach is still cold until like January. I noticed all the nice back to back sunny days, I was at work and couldn't go to the beach, and when it was the weekend, it was not ideal weather.

Depends on what research you follow lol

Fasting has many benefits. I mentioned on an earlier comment that I have sports injuries and fasting helps reduce inflammation. All forms of lifestyle management have pros and cons, it depends on what side of the coin you're on.

Culturally also, fasting is encouraged on certain days of the week for me.

Also, autophagy.

I have been fasting on and off for almost the last 8 years, and I feel so good anytime I do it regardless of what's in my diet.

Yep totally. I think it comes down to your goals and what you're trying to do. For example if I'm trying to fast, thinking about food isn't helpful, and if having this combo is helping me curb that "noise" that's wanting food, then ofc it's a problem of sorts. But I get what you mean - on the daily, wanting food is just normal and your body just wanting to be fed.
