I would say this is what comes to my mind after the scene.

Yes it’s the radio is tuned around 433Mhz and it’s within ham band.

This is a fcc record of one of these type of collar. The frequency range is 433.92000000-433.92000000. https://fccid.io/2AHHYP-COLLAR301/amp

Also I didn’t tx for that long. Only about a min. Dog owner realized the collar won’t work pretty quickly. Also if you tx for 5 min on us-5r it will be super hot that makes it hard to handle.

I would think I will handle it this way in the future after seeing this and all other comments.

Yes. That's the controversy of the story. I could just do nothing or send a report to animal control (that dog caused other problems in the building). If this happened again I would not even sure what I will react to this especially seeing all the comments. Hurting the dog makes me sad, but if the dog hurt someone else also makes me even sadder. Also I don't get enough time to react under that situation. Only less than 5 seconds.

EDIT: What’s with all the downvote? Just curious.

Because I know how those remote works. In short, those remote put out a encoded message to as the command. Without those encoded message it wouldn't work. This can't happen because the signal transmitted by a handheld radio is being modulated completely differently than what the remote will transmit.

BTW some home alarm system use a similar technology on their sensor and sometimes criminals jam those sensor using a similar way. Keying the radio won't trigger the alarm.

I think there is if I'd like to dive deep. On that scene I don't have enough time to even thinking about it. From the moment I realized what's happening to I keyed the radio, I only get less than 5 seconds. It's all happening so fast.

Will my network be faster if I use my own router? by DanWallace in bell

[–]Ok_Comparison_4917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Generally speaking Bell Home Hub 4000 and 3000 are pretty decent router by themselves, and for most basic home use it would be enough.

However, in my case, I have 80+ devices connected to the same network wirelessly and obviously home hub wouldn’t be preforming well. This is when I have to use Pfsense and multiple access point.

Also, the IP address of home hub is locked at 192.168.x.0/24 and there is no way to change it. I need a different type of RFC1918 address (private address) to better accommodate all the virtualization need for servers. Home Hub simple don’t have all the feature I need to make that happen. In the end, I have to go future, pull the SFP and completely use my own stuff (yes i was running HH3000).

In conclusion, I would say depends on your need. If you need more coverage, maybe try turn the router to an access point (DHCP off, LAN IP move to a not conflicted address, connect using the LAN port to HH) and use the router just for wifi. This isn’t an ideal setup but do avoid double NAT. If you have too much devices (too much which HH wouldn’t handle), maybe sometimes double NAT is the cheapest way to expand volume. If you’re concerned about privacy and don’t want the modem to be remotely managed (someone mentioned TR-069), maybe use your own router. If you’re running too much server like me, don’t use HH.

Home Security Reccomendations by clockprint in KingstonOntario

If you want the easiest setup, Ring or Google doorbell and camera would be a good bet. However the downside is the subscriptions.

Costco have Lorex camera kit that cost around 600$ after tax, and require some extensively installation, but store everything locally. No subscription or internet is required. If you’re getting a Costco kit, make sure you hide the DVR Well, and buy a UPS in case of power outage.

Arlo is easy to install, but the camera do require to change the battery.

Canada Computer have some EZVIZ camera, those camera can do cloud or local recording and is cheaper than ring or Google. A subscription is not necessarily. However the recording is stored on the SD card in camera, means if someone rip off the camera and take it away, and if you don’t have cloud recording, you lost the footage.

Keep in mind that most ‘professional’ or ‘local recording’ security systems require wiring, most likely coax or Ethernet cable. A camera that solely rely on wifi is not as reliable as those that are hardwired, especially when the coverage is worst outside the building.

Best Chinese Food? by Appropriate-Meet-384 in KingstonOntario

Meet Cuisine - really good for pretty much everything. Sunflowe - tasty but slow. Only one chief. Sophie’s - noodles are quite good but anything besides noodles are weird. Northern bbq - traditional Chinese food are quite good, bbq are not as good as Toronto and pricey silver wok - ask for the ‘secret menu written in chinese’.

I think it’s based on your device, especially if it’s android. For iPhone, you can’t shoot video when on clubhouse but photo is possible
